The story so far: This year, Gary and I decided to cut out meat from our diets, which has meant a huge change in the way we eat (and WHAT we eat, of course!).

With this in mind, I want to continue to share my experiences dining out in the city, but with a new focus. I want to give you guys the scoop on the places that aren’t serving meat-free menus as a mere afterthought – the places with dishes to delight everybody in your posse. You’ll find me sharing all the details here in The Glasgow Veggie Diaries – I hope you’ll join me as I try out vegetarian options in Glasgow and report back on what you can expect!

This week, The Glasgow Veggie Diaries takes on a meal very close to my heart: BRUNCH!

When it comes to weekend activities, brunch falls pretty high on my list of priorities. There aren’t many other meals where you can combine the sweet and the savoury, or are encouraged to spend a long time hanging out and chatting while you eat. Brunch is for catching up, for sharing ideas and relaxing, and is the ultimate ‘me time’ meal.

And in Glasgow, brunches don’t come much better than the ones at Hutchesons Bar and Brasserie. Beloved by shoppers, couples, families and groups of girlfriends, brunch at Hutchesons is a delicious and decadent affair!

Recently, Hutchesons launched their new Bubbles & Brunch menu, which runs from 11am to 3pm every Saturday and Sunday. After being invited to come along and try their new spin on the classic weekend brunch, I grabbed the attention of my blogging babe Lori with the promise of eggs, avocado and a good blether.

About Hutchesons Bar and Brasserie

Hutchesons is a venue in Glasgow’s Merchant City area with a rich history. It was built in the early 1800’s and has seen many incarnations including a library, a bank and exhibition space. Nowadays, it is of course known for its award-winning food and grand decor (they’ve just bagged a Scottish Style Award dontcha know?!) – with many of the building’s traditional features maintained.

Dining in Hutchesons and taking in the surroundings is an experience in itself – think high, detailed ceilings, intricate fireplaces and lush palm leaves. It’s a surefire way to make any meal feel like an occasion. Not ones to pass up an excuse to get fancy, we donned our favourite floral frocks for our brunch date!

Bubbles & Brunch

Brunch at Hutchesons was already a pretty great way to kick-start the weekend, and the team at Hutchesons have thought about how to go that extra step by introducing the Bubbles & Brunch menu. Designed for two to share, you can expect freshly baked butter croissants, orange juice (also fresh!), a bottle of Prosecco and a choice each from the nine brunch dishes on the menu.

The brunch dishes themselves are varied – from pancakes, to french toast, poached eggs, and even a classic Caesar salad – and most of the menu is suitable for vegetarians (the pancakes and french toast are both served with bacon, but can be requested without bacon too). I decided on eggs Florentine while Lori chose the avocado on toasted bread (this usually comes with poached egg but Lori requested it scrambled, which wasn’t a problem).

Sweet Treats and Saturday Chattering

The croissants arrived warm and just before the rest of the dishes, and we enjoyed relaxing in our comfy booth and catching up in the meantime. I sipped on orange juice while Lori tried some of the Prosecco (which she confirmed tasted lovely and was a great accompaniment to the food) and got her mimosa on!

Egg-citing Times

When it comes to brunch, I just can’t see past ordering eggs. Any eggs really, but especially if they are poached to perfection (this is why I try to get away with breakfast dishes for dinner more than I should!). My eggs Florentine were delicious, gooey and golden, served on fluffy white muffins.

Lori’s smashed avocado came with chilli and lime on top of toast, with a petite skillet of scrambled eggs on the side. We both agreed that we would happily eat it all over again.

If you fancy starting your weekend in style, I suggest you grab your lipstick and a gal pal (or boy pal!) before hot-footing it to brunch at Hutchesons. You can find out more about their Bubbles & Brunch offer here, and catch up with my other Glasgow Veggie Diaries adventures here!

Are you as obsessed with brunch as I am? And just for fun: who would your dream brunch date be?

Because I’m all about that brunch, ’bout that brunch…
