The Spring 2016 To-do List

Photo from my Instagram

Spring has sprung! Or at least, according to my planner, we’ve had the first official day of Spring recently! Either way, I couldn’t be happier about the arrival of the longer, warmer (and of course, brighter!) days – and have already started planning what I want to do to make the most of things.

Seasonal checklists have become a little tradition around here, but rather than simply repost this from last Spring, I’ve made a few updates (and kept the classics of course!). There’s just something about Spring… it has an amazing feeling of NEWNESS. After all, we have almost a whole year ahead of us, just waiting. Are you excited? I know I am!

Welcome to your Spring 2016 to-do list – now, unpeel a few of those knitted layers, grab your Easter eggs and let’s get started…

1. Find a new signature lip colour – the brighter the better! My Springtime shade this year is violet, how about you?

2. Brighten up your table (or your hair!) with some beautiful blooms

3. Embrace the newness of Spring and learn a new skill!

4. Snap a photo of the first cherry blossoms that you spot this year

5. Get a pastel coloured manicure – feel inspired by Easter eggs, fluffy chicks and cheery Springtime hues

6. Update your interior décor – this is the perfect time to paint a bold statement wall, rearrange your furniture or take on a fun DIY project

7. It’s time to get ruthless and do a clear out (don’t forget to donate!) and ditch the pieces you’ve been hoarding for ages

8. …and as a reward, treat yourself to a little Spring wardrobe update

9. Plan a road trip! Where do YOU want to visit this Summer? Make a list and feel inspired!

10. Bake something delicious and eat it al fresco in the park with your BFF

These are just a few of the ways I’ll be celebrating the arrival of Spring – how about you? Do you have any must-do’s that you think we should add to the Spring 2016 to-do list? Let me know!

Here’s to a happy, colourful Spring…

A Galentine’s Day Get-together

As much as I love Valentine’s Day and all of the kitschy, silly fun that it brings, I must admit that this year I was just as excited for February 13th – otherwise known as Galentine’s Day. Taking the lead from Leslie Knope, I wanted to spend an afternoon hanging out with some of the awesome females in my life, eat some sweet treats and spread the good vibes. Ladies celebrating ladies!

And the best way to round up your power posse? Throw a Galentine’s Day get-together of course! Here’s how I did it…

God knows I love a theme, and I couldn’t wait to start planning some Galentines fun for my girls! With the help of Zazzle, I created some fun treat bags so that everyone would have a little souvenir to take home. The geometric hearts were the perfect motif, and I created some custom stickers to seal each bag. The process was super easy (not to mention QUICK!) and I love the finished result.

For inside each bag, I picked out some girly goodies, starting with these pink Mean Girls-themed badges (also from Zazzle). I added some candy hearts (of course!), cute candles, confetti, a heart-shaped balloon (because it’s not a party without balloons!), along with a few other surprises.

What’s a girls-only gathering without some beauty treats to enjoy? These limited-edition Sweetheart and Polish nails by Elegant Touch were a huge hit, with different colours to suit everyone in the gang.

I love the warmth and feeling of being unstoppable that comes from hanging out in a group of positive babes that support each other! These Be a Flamingo in a Flock of Pigeons mini-prints not only feature one of my favourite sayings, but one of my favourite animals too!

I wasted no time picking out something suitable to wear and even though I encouraged a loose dress theme (hearts, lips, polka dots, sparkles, cupids, girl power, flowers, unicorns…), the most important thing was for everyone to feel like themselves. I found this sequinned heart sweater in H&M at the VERY last minute and wore it over my Coco & Cleo polka dot dress.

Having just visited the lovely Lia at Swoon Nails, my paws had been polished with a very special themed manicure for the occasion. Perfect for a weekend of celebrating love!

There’s something about getting together with my girls that makes me all kinds of nostalgic, and I couldn’t resist making an old-school DIY necklace with – what else? – GALENTINES in multi-coloured letters.

With 90s vibes in full flow, I created a special quiz, peppered with pop music, TV shows and movies. The prize was a coveted FOODS BEFORE DUDES tote bag stuffed with more adorable goodies. Hosting the quiz was one of my favourite parts of the afternoon, it was so much fun and I loved seeing everyone join in!

I had originally planned my Galentine’s Day get-together to take place at home, but I had to switch up the venue at short-notice. Luckily, the dolls at one of my favourite haunts, Cafe Strange Brew, came to my rescue and we spent the afternoon in their kickass cafe instead. Munching on carrot cake, chocolate & raspberry brownies and other sweet delights, it was the perfect setting.

Hanging out with a few of my favourite friends was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. We laughed, cooed over a sassy dog, drank tea and coffee by the bucketload and indulged in all kinds of girl talk. I am truly grateful to have these fabulous ladies in my life, and I certainly won’t be waiting until February 13th to celebrate them all over again! When you have rad friends, Galentine’s Day can be anytime you choose.

Did you do anything for Galentine’s Day? Do you jump at the chance to dress in theme, too?

Here’s to ladies celebrating ladies!
With thanks and hi-fives to Zazzle, Elegant Touch and Cafe Strange Brew

Friday Hi-Fives: Sisters, Sandwiches and Shoefies!

IMG_7844 Happy Friday! Today is the first Hi-Fives of 2016, and after two years of posting in the same format, I’ve decided to give this feature a little bit of a makeover.

Every Friday, you can still expect me to share the highlights of the last 7 days, and what’s been making me smile lately. I love to make this blog a cheerful and positive place – and my Friday Hi-Fives are no exception!

I’ll be using this feature to celebrate the best of the week, and tell you guys about what I’ve enjoyed – whether I’ve found it online or out and about. Think of it as a hi-five from me to you to kick-start the weekend (and a pick n’ mix of all the good stuff!).

I’m also going to suggest a fun feel-good action to try each week, so keep a look out for that (I’ll be doing it too!) – and don’t forget to let me know if you’ve tried it out!

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…I managed to catch Sisters at the cinema – finally! Tina n’ Amy can do no wrong in my eyes, and I loved cracking up at this awesome movie.

…Gary and I grabbed some lunch at Cafe Strange Brew on Pollokshaws Road on Saturday – with EPIC sandwiches, great veggie options and hot cups of Dear Green Coffee I would recommend stopping by! I just know we’ll be back again soon.

…DIY fashion rocks! If you dig Star Wars and handmade accessories, you’ll love this R2D2
fascinator over on Xandra’s blog. The force is strong (and adorable!)…

…Over the last few weeks I’ve been using Benefit’s new They’re Real! tinted primer along with my usual They’re Real! mascara. Talk about a match made in heaven! I must admit that before I seen it in action I was a little unsure of how much impact the primer could have – but the difference is REALLY noticeable. I’ve been batting my lashes so much you’d think I was trying to talk my way out of trouble!

…This week I spent a few days in Belfast and enjoyed staying in Malmaison hotel. With a huge marshmallow bed you could get lost in and super-luxe red and purple velvet decor, I was a tiny bit sorry to leave…

So, enough about me! How has YOUR week been, friends? Anything I should check out?

Hi-five homework:
try taking a shoefie (shoe selfie) with your BFF or beau this week! Extra credit if you’re wearing co-ordinating footwear (#twinningiswinning).

With love, good vibes and that Friday feeling…
