Getting Road Trip Ready: Bikinis with Boohoo

boohoo

This year, I’m going on my biggest adventure yet – a road trip across America with Gary and our two best friends – and I just can’t WAIT! It’s only two months before we set off (*squeals*) and it’s definitely about time I started preparing for this heck of a holiday.

First things first! Between beaches, hotel pools and um, a hot tub in the mountains (yeah, really!), one thing is certain: I’m going to need a swimsuit! I’d just started browsing some new season swimwear when, with impeccable timing, the team at Boohoo got in touch asking me to take a look at their latest drop of bikinis and suits for an evening of spa treats with them. Who could say no to that?

Picking out a bikini from Boohoo was easier said than done! With a ton of bright colours and playful patterns to choose from, there’s really something to suit everyone in the new collection and I was spoilt for choice. I am a huge fan of retro high-waisted bottoms, so my first choice was this adorable Ava watermelon print bikini. As much as I loved it the fun pattern (dressing like a bowl of fruit is a recurring theme in my summer wardrobe…) , the fit wasn’t quite right so I swapped it out for another high-waisted option.

As well as having ready-to-go sets, Boohoo also have a selection of mix and match swimwear – perfect if you fancy coming up with your own combinations to suit your style. I picked out their Corfu moulded triangle bikini top and the matching high-waisted briefs and got ready for a night at Village Hotel Club Glasgow with some other blogging babes!

I’d never actually visited a Village Hotel before, so the hotel geek in me was really looking forward to it! I loved the cool, contemporary decor at reception, and the spa area was very relaxing. As well as enjoying a dip in the (heated!) indoor pool, and a blether in the jacuzzi, we also spent some time in the spa lounge.

After being treated so some tasty nibbles and drinks, the beauty therapists from the Village Spa led us through an interactive skincare workshop. After scrubbing and rubbing my face with gorgeous-smelling ESPA products, my skin was glowing and felt super hydrated. DIY facials might just become a regular thing for this gal – watch this space…

Escaping to this girly get-together for a few hours was the perfect cure for the cold weather blues! This event was part of the Boohoo ‘Treat Yourself’ Spa Tour and, if you fancy treating yourself too, here are some handy discount codes: for an exclusive 10% discount off treatments or food and drink at Village Hotels, use voucher BOOHOO10 – and for 20% off everything at Boohoo use voucher BOOHOOXVILLAGESPA20 – hooray!

With a cute and very colourful bikini to start off my suitcase, I’m starting to feel the holiday excitement! Have you started looking at any swimsuits this year? If you could dress like a piece of fruit, which would you choose?

Here’s to poolside posing and hot tub gossip sessions…

5 Reasons to Fall in Love with The Cambridge Satchel Company’s Spring Collection

Cambridge Satchel

Bonjour! Last week I was transported to the glamorous bygone days of the French Riviera… and I didn’t even need my passport (or a time machine!). Instead, I headed through to Edinburgh for a very special visit to The Cambridge Satchel Company’s store at Grassmarket to get to know their new Spring line a little better.

Inspired by vintage travel postcards, pastel-hued French sunsets, and the need to carry all of your precious essentials around in style, The Cambridge Satchel Company’s dreamy new collection left me completely smitten and with major wanderlust! Ooh la la!

Cambridge Satchel

I couldn’t help but snap some photos while I was visiting and chatting all things bag-shaped with the lovely team at the store – so I thought I would share a few of them today, along with some details on what you can expect from the new range.

Here are 5 very good reasons to fall in love with The Cambridge Satchel Company’s Spring Collection…

Cambridge Satchel

New colours: taking their cue from traditional villas, the sea and chic vintage French fashion, the colour palette for Spring includes brand new hues in Terracotta (my favourite from the collection, almost verging on peach and gorgeously girly), French grey (a soft, blue-grey that will go with EVERYTHING!), Clay (an off-white that has the power to smarten up even the most distressed denim) and Amber (warm, rich and will only look cooler as it gets worn).

Floating along on clouds: ahh, the cloud bags! My absolute favourites from the collection (and pretty much my favourite design that The Cambridge Satchel Company have ever released). These adorable, scalloped-edged satchels are included in the new colours and are the perfect size for a day of sightseeing.

New textures: as well as four new shades, the Spring bags also come in some brand new materials. From soft grain to luxurious Saffiano leather, the structured design that the brand is known for is given some extra je nais se quoi thanks to these additional touches of texture.

Poppy’s back… and she’s had a makeover: The Cambridge Satchel Company’s Poppy bags are a design loved by many (Lady Gaga often rocks the dusky rose colourway!) thanks to striking the perfect balance between pretty and practical. The retro push-lock closure and doctor’s bag style make this bag seem as though it’s leapt from an episode of Mad Men. So, Poppy is back for Spring because she really didn’t want to miss out on a trip to the Riviera; in new colours and Saffiano leather options.

This time it’s personal: actually, that’s not strictly true – personalisation at The Cambridge Satchel Company is not a new concept as the brand have been offering this service for a long time. However, there are some new monogram colours and symbols to choose from to help make your new season bag your very own! I love watching the process and I decided to adorn my terracotta backpack with silver initials (mine, of course!) to match the hardware. I just can’t wait to take it on my next adventure…

A Vintage-inspired Day on the Town

vintage-inspired

There are some traditions that are so good, you keep them up forever. When I was little, my mum used to take me to see a pantomime around Christmas, and it was always such a special time of year that I looked forward to. A day out in the city with a nip in the air and all of the Christmas decorations lighting up the streets just feels more magical somehow!

Now that I’m a bit (ahem!) older, it’s a tradition that I still like to keep up. As well as all the fun of the pantomime (which is a tradition in itself – panto shows have been going strong for 300 years now!), it’s also a good excuse to get all dressed up and go out for some dinner before the performance. Not that I need an excuse…

vintage-inspired

In honour of vintage shows and, of course, the traditional theatre buildings themselves echoing a bygone era, I decided to go for a retro look on our recent trip to the pantomime!

As well as keeping my bangs and length in check, I can always rely on the babes at BLOW to coif my hair into something awesome for a special occasion. A wash, a blow dry and some vintage-inspired waves later, I was feeling flapper-girl fabulous (and I was in and out in an hour – how’s that for service?!).

Some of you might remember Love Ur Look from when I twirled my way around Cabana Bay resort last summer in one of their pink 1950s throwback frocks. For my day out, I wore another one of their dresses – the Blue Apple Shirt Dress. This piece is a lot better suited to this time of year – it looks great with or without tights and the longer sleeves and thicker material feel nice and cosy.

I love the cut of this dress – the exaggerated shape of the nipped in waist and flared skirt feel very feminine and it’s so easy to wear. It was the perfect accompaniment to my vintage waves and I’m looking forward to seeing how I can style it again in Spring… something tells me maybe with a cute cardigan and fruit-inspired accessories.

The little cream Knightsbridge bag is from Marc B’s latest collection. The quilted design makes it feel pretty timeless, so it’s ideal for accessorising all fashion decades!

Finally, I took inspiration from all of my old-school silver screen heroines and kept warm in a faux fur jacket. I’m not sure if Marilyn would have worn a marshmallow-pink fur to a Hollywood party, but to be fair she didn’t have a TK Maxx back then, right? If you’ve been catching my Instagram posts lately, you’ll probably recognise this jacket – it’s been a hot favourite of mine this season.

vintage-inspired

Getting dolled up is half the fun of going out if you ask me, and I just loved going for a vintage-inspired look to celebrate one of my favourite traditions. Oh, and the pantomime was brilliant (Cinderella at The King’s, if you’re wondering!) – I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Do you have any traditions that you like to keep up? Have you tried a retro look lately?

Love,
