A Very Merry Christmas Mixtape – Curated by YOU!

very merry Christmas mixtape

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear – can I get an amen? Buddy the Elf might be on to something here because I sure feel more festive after singing along to some of my favourite seasonal songs!

I know that a lot of you feel the same way, so I took to Instagram to find out YOUR most-loved Christmas songs and I loved reading the responses.

Music has such an important and memorable part to play in our big celebrations, so why should Christmas be any different? I enjoyed reading (and listening to!) everyone’s top picks so much that I decided to put them together into our very own playlist!

So, here’s a Very Merry Christmas Mixtape – curated by you guys (with a couple of my favourites thrown in, too)…

You Make it Feel Like Christmas by Gwen Stefani (selected by @foreverhomeinspiration)

Last Christmas by Wham! (selected by @ashleymunster and @thegirlinthetartanscarf)

All Alone on Christmas by Darlene Love (selected by @garytroublewith)

Aaaaaand: JAZZ HANDS!

I’m sure you’ll agree we’ve put together a pretty fabulous playlist, right? And I also think we can agree that Christmas Wrapping is a firm favourite. You might have some (or all!) of these songs already – but just in case you haven’t, I’ve put together our Very Merry Christmas Mixtape over on Tidal! You can listen to it here.

Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun and put their suggestions forward, I hope you enjoy listening to everyone else’s selections too!

This is my last post until after the festivities, so I hope you have an awesome time over the next week and I’ll be back here very soon. Happy Christmas!

Welcome To Our Christmas Decor 2017!

Putting up our Christmas tree has fast become one of the holiday traditions that I get very excited about! So much in fact, that from the first of December I am ITCHING to pull out the decorations, put on a playlist and go to town.

My take on festive decor is very much in theme with the rest of our house, which a lot of you guys will be familiar with by now I am sure! The lovely gals over at hous. recently described our interior vibe as “vintage Palm Springs” (you can read the rest of that feature here!), so you can probably imagine that going full-on Santa’s grotto isn’t really our style!

Instead, we like to keep things colourful, playful and a tad minimalist with our Christmas decor so that we can enjoy the seasonal theme but still have all of the colours and motifs that make us feel right at home.

Our Christmas tree is probably the most non-traditional item we have and, not only do I love the way it looks, but it doesn’t bother Bosley either (I honestly had visions of him trying to climb whatever tree we had!). It means we have to be stricter with our bauble collection, but I can spiral out of control very quickly when it comes to small, sparkly objects so that can only be a good thing.

We’ve switched up our cushions for our Christmas ones (from M&S a few years back) and we’ve got our teal tinsel high up on the picture frames and such (because Bosley does try to run around with it if it’s in pawing distance…).

Our gold 3D HO HO HO letters have made another appearance this year and, even though they are just cardboard, they’re one of my favourite decorations! I might even change them to say OOOH when Santa’s on his way…

Speaking of letters, this vintage-inspired pegboard* from Truffle Shuffle has been a constant source of entertainment! Whether it’s quotes from our favourite festive films or lines from childhood Christmas number ones, we’re having a lot of fun spelling things out and making it part of our Christmas decor!

Having our home ready for visitors over the holidays isn’t just about how it looks but how it sounds and smells too, am I right? Elvis’ Christmas album playing on the Crosley takes care of the sound, and burning something seasonal and spicy adds an extra layer of cosy to the room!

Shearer Candles have really outdone themselves this year with a new range of holiday candles. Their Red Apple & Cinnamon jar candle smells utterly delicious! And PS, I’m also a huge fan of the Gingerbread candle tin (not pictured) – it could fool people into thinking I’ve been baking all day, haha!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek into this year’s Christmas decor around our place. I really enjoy seeing how other people have styled their homes for this time of year, so let me know what you’re doing! Do you have a theme? What’s your favourite decoration?

Diaries at the Ready! Indie Christmas Shopping Events in Glasgow

Christmas shopping events in Glasgow

Earlier this month, you might remember that I shared my visit to The Hidden Lane and a peek into some of the retailers and studios that you can find there. I left with plenty of gift inspiration and I’ve been making a list of some locally-made goodies (and checking it twice!) to spoil my nearest and dearest with!

It’s safe to say that I’m well and truly in the mood to shop now and, with just a few weeks left until Christmas, there are lots of awesome pop-ups, markets and in-store specials going on around town that are just too good to keep to myself.

Diaries at the ready, this is my guide to indie Christmas shopping events in Glasgow…

Etsy Made Local (2nd and 3rd December): Back by popular demand, this yearly market showcases the very best of Scottish Etsy creatives all under one roof at The Briggait. Spread across two days, you’ll find the likes of Bonnie Bling, Nikki McWilliams, Heather Margaret Grace and so much more. Be sure to follow the Glasgow Etsy Team on Instagram for previews of the sellers you can expect to see on both days!

Boutique by Shelter Scotland’s First Birthday (2nd December): Can you believe it’s been a whole year since Boutique by Shelter Scotland opened their doors on Byres Road? It’s great to see an initiative like this thriving in Glasgow! This weekend, the shop is celebrating the festive season AND their first birthday with cake, mince pies and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Festive Fun at Sunshine No 1 (Sunday 3rd December): There’s a special festive day planned this Sunday at Mount Florida’s cutest gift shop! Shop for Christmas cards and stocking fillers while enjoying mulled wine and mince pies. The fabulous Claire Barclay will also be there drawing pop-up portraits, such a great idea for a present (or a treat for yourself!).

Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Glad Rags (7th December): The Southside’s most stylish thrift store are throwing a special shopping evening next Thursday with a ton of bargains to be snapped up from 6pm to 9pm! All of their stock will be 3 for 2 and guest crafter Luna Viola Design will also be there with her signature marble effect jewellery. Why not round up your girl gang and make a night of it – The Glad Cafe (next door) is open until midnight…

The Glasgow Markets x Kiehl’s Xmas Pop Up Market (10th December): Both the Glasgow Vintage & Flea Market at the Glasgow Independent Market have been a huge hit this year, attracting massive crowds to their monthly events at BAaD. On 10th December a range of the markets’ finest stalls will be popping up at Kiehl’s Buchanan Street with funds being raised for the MTV Staying Alive Charity. There’ll also be a DJ, cocktail bar and giveaways in signature Kiehl’s party spirit!

Hopefully you’ll fancy visiting one (or all!) of these Christmas shopping events in Glasgow over the next few weeks. Whether you love discovering local businesses, supporting good causes or indulging in a bit of holiday cheer, there’s something to suit everyone!
