As a huge lover of all things kitsch, I adore wearing wild prints and statement accessories – especially on sunny days! When I first laid eyes on this flamingo print dress (H! By Henry Holland at Debenhams), I swooned over its cute print and retro fit, and couldn’t wait to pack it into my suitcase for Florida. I’ve become just a tiny bit obsessed with flamingos lately along with palm trees and ‘vintage Florida’ style – give me sunbleached colours, wide-brimmed hats and silly postcards of alligators sitting on deck chairs, I can’t get enough!
On a hot weekend afternoon in the Sunshine State, I love nothing more than hanging around the House of Blues to cool off. It’s relaxed feel and all-round good vibes make it the perfect spot for sipping iced tea while listening to some pretty damn great music. The building itself is awesome, inside and out, with custom-built wooden and brick finishes. The stoop just outside is my favourite spot.
Normally, I’d be teaming this dress with a stand-out, bright necklace (something like Sugar & Vice’s Tropical Collection would match this look perfectly) but as it was so hot, I didn’t wear much jewellery (I’ve found out the hard way in previous years that jewellery and constant application of sunblock don’t mix well…).OK, so what I’m lacking in statement jewellery I like to think I’m making up for in bag game. Can we take a moment to talk about this Betsey Johnson Ice Cream Cone clutch?! It’s my new favourite thing! As well as being designed by my beloved Betsey, it’s ALL KINDS of adorable and perfect for summer (just remember it won’t taste like ice cream if you try to lick it…).Definition of a good surprise? Slicking on a new lip colour to discover it has flecks of glitter in it. Hello, Jem & The Holagrams lips! This one is OCC Lip Tar in YAOI. And every girl needs a pair of Lolita-style sunglasses. Fact!My afternoon ensemble included:
Clutch: Betsey Johnson
Floral hairband: Topshop
Pink sandals: Primark
Popsicle ring: a gift
We managed to hide out from the blistering afternoon heat and by the time we left House of Blues, filled with fabulous food and good times, the sun was just starting to slide away out of sight.
What is your favourite way to spend a hot afternoon? And your print obsessions for Summer?
In blues we trust…
