A Sugar Coated Spring

I don’t know about you, but I am SO READY to retire my winter layers and get into the swing of spring! My faithful faux fur coat is starting to feel like a villain in a bad movie…just when you think you’ve seen the last of him, he comes back out. To celebrate the four day weekend over Easter, I put together this Spring-inspired outfit from some of the 80 stores at Buchanan Galleries, and spent a fun afternoon with Gary walking around our old neighbourhood.

Outfit Details:
Sugar Coated tee | H&M
Gingham skirt | Mango
Silver camera bag | Accessorize
Hair flower | Claire’s
Puma sneakers | Kids Footlocker (yep, really!)
Fuchsia Fever lipstick | Benefit Cosmetics at Boots

All available at Buchanan Galleries

Hair by #BLOW | Nails by Swoon Nails

We visited the Botanic Gardens, where it feels like a spring day all year round! I’d visited #BLOW earlier that morning for a quick hair appointment, and they gave me the 1960s fantasy bouffant of my dreams. It just goes to show that you can get the Priscilla Presley-meets-Betty Rubble hair you’ve always wanted (you just need the right salon!).

My favourite part of this outfit has to be the mint Sugar Coated tee from H&M. I’ve been falling in love with slogan tees all over again lately, and that pastel green shade has ‘Spring’ written all over it!

Also, can we just take five and talk about these creeper-style Puma sneakers? Yes, they are technically definitely from a children’s shoe store, but hey – if the shoe fits (boom boom!), who am I to complain? I walked around in them all day, from the Botanic Gardens, to lunch at West on the Corner, and back into the city centre again. Cute AND comfy!

I hope you guys have been starting to enjoy the sunnier days and got a chance to take it easy over Easter. Thank you for your patience and support with my blog rebrand also – I really appreciate it and can’t wait to reveal more!

Tell me, have you started wearing your favourite Spring pieces yet? And which cartoon character’s hair do YOU most admire?

Here’s to a sugar coated spring…

An Ode to Chunky Black Boots

black boots

There are many key moments in my life when a pair of chunky black boots have been my footwear of choice. They’ve seen me through more birthdays than I care to count, graduating high school, taking my first steps inside University (and, a few years later, taking my last steps inside University), nights of endless dancing, concerts, and a funeral. And yes, I’m aware that suddenly sounded like a film title (don’t worry, Hugh Grant won’t be making a sudden appearance).

So, I guess what I’m saying is, we go back a long way, black boots and I. They feel familiar and seem to go with virtually everything I own (not an easy task considering my wardrobe choices!).

I love how a pair of boots can instantly transform a floral dress and make you feel like a badass – like the kind of princess that rescues herself. And with the right pair of rolled up jeans and a sweater, you’ve got yourself an easy-breezy Sunday ensemble.

Last month, I was invited by the team at Next to visit their uber-glam Shoe Lounge and discover their new season collection to see if I could find my perfect shoes. While I enjoyed discovering their bright sneakers and colour pop pointed flats, these black chunky Chelsea ankle boots immediately won me over.

With thick soles and androgynous brogue detailing, these boots were sure made for walking (and standing, and dancing…) and before I knew it, they were on my feet!

I think they look great with coloured tights (which is just as well, because it’s not going to be warm enough for bare legs anytime soon!), and I’m looking forward to dressing them up (and down!) even more over the coming months.

Shoe trends come and go but, if you ask me, chunky black boots are for life! I didn’t exactly fall in love with a new style at Next but I DID rediscover my favourite style of footwear – which is just as good, wouldn’t you say?

Do you have a footwear staple that you go back to again and again? What is your top pick from the new Next collection?

With thanks to the lovely team at Next

Getting Road Trip Ready: Bikinis with Boohoo

This year, I’m going on my biggest adventure yet – a road trip across America with Gary and our two best friends – and I just can’t WAIT! It’s only two months before we set off (*squeals*) and it’s definitely about time I started preparing for this heck of a holiday.

First things first! Between beaches, hotel pools and um, a hot tub in the mountains (yeah, really!), one thing is certain: I’m going to need a swimsuit! I’d just started browsing some new season swimwear when, with impeccable timing, the team at Boohoo got in touch asking me to take a look at their latest drop of bikinis and suits for an evening of spa treats with them. Who could say no to that?

Picking out a bikini from Boohoo was easier said than done! With a ton of bright colours and playful patterns to choose from, there’s really something to suit everyone in the new collection and I was spoilt for choice. I am a huge fan of retro high-waisted bottoms, so my first choice was this adorable Ava watermelon print bikini. As much as I loved it the fun pattern (dressing like a bowl of fruit is a recurring theme in my summer wardrobe…) , the fit wasn’t quite right so I swapped it out for another high-waisted option.

As well as having ready-to-go sets, Boohoo also have a selection of mix and match swimwear – perfect if you fancy coming up with your own combinations to suit your style. I picked out their Corfu moulded triangle bikini top and the matching high-waisted briefs and got ready for a night at Village Hotel Club Glasgow with some other blogging babes!

I’d never actually visited a Village Hotel before, so the hotel geek in me was really looking forward to it! I loved the cool, contemporary decor at reception, and the spa area was very relaxing. As well as enjoying a dip in the (heated!) indoor pool, and a blether in the jacuzzi, we also spent some time in the spa lounge.

After being treated so some tasty nibbles and drinks, the beauty therapists from the Village Spa led us through an interactive skincare workshop. After scrubbing and rubbing my face with gorgeous-smelling ESPA products, my skin was glowing and felt super hydrated. DIY facials might just become a regular thing for this gal – watch this space…

Escaping to this girly get-together for a few hours was the perfect cure for the cold weather blues! This event was part of the Boohoo ‘Treat Yourself’ Spa Tour and, if you fancy treating yourself too, here are some handy discount codes: for an exclusive 10% discount off treatments or food and drink at Village Hotels, use voucher BOOHOO10 – and for 20% off everything at Boohoo use voucher BOOHOOXVILLAGESPA20 – hooray!

With a cute and very colourful bikini to start off my suitcase, I’m starting to feel the holiday excitement! Have you started looking at any swimsuits this year? If you could dress like a piece of fruit, which would you choose?

Here’s to poolside posing and hot tub gossip sessions…
