Friday Hi-Fives: A FrockDrop, a Pop-Up and a Party in a Shop!

FrockDrop

It will probably come as absolutely no surprise to you guys that Friday is my favourite day of the week! There’s something about reflecting on the week gone by and the promise of the weekend that makes me bounce out of bed a little easier, how about you?

Since we last caught up, I’ve been getting ready for a weekend away with Lori and Ayden (we leave next Friday and I can’t wait!), getting my eyebrows waxed in the back of a Barbie-pink jeep (true story!) thanks to the gals at Benefit and having a bao bun bonanza at Mamafubu.

Last night I was through in Edinburgh celebrating Godiva Boutique’s Spring launch party. Colourful dresses by the likes of Rowanjoy and a treasure trove of original vintage kept me swooning all night. Godiva have always been one of my must-visit spots whenever I hit up the capital, and last night was proof that the store is still at the top of their game.

And now to share some events happening in Glasgow this weekend that I think you’re going to love! First up, we have the Buchanan Galleries #FrockDrop station, which has been set up in support of Marie Curie. From now until the 19th of March, the FrockDrop will be gratefully accepting donations of pre-loved clothes, which will then be sold on in Marie Curie’s many charity shops to help those living with terminal illness.

You can find the FrockDrop across from John Lewis on the ground floor of the centre, and Buchanan Galleries are rewarding those who donate with a £5 gift card and money off vouchers. It’s a fantastic cause, and a good excuse to have that wardrobe clearout you’ve been putting off, right?

Meanwhile down at Central Chambers tomorrow, Peaches Wax Bar have organised a very special pop-up at Swoon Nails, and a little birdie tells me there are still a couple of brow appointments that have not been snapped up yet! Head over to Swoon Nails on Instagram to find out more about this awesome ladyboss collaboration.

Before I head into the weekend, I have just a few more hi-fives to share…

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…I tried Earl Grey chocolate from Mary’s Milk Bar and now think it needs to be a regular staple in my diet. Delicious!

…our bathroom renovation has started and I get to say things like “the antique brass towel holder just got delivered”. When did I become this grown up?! Send help!

…Wednesday’s worldwide celebrations for International Women’s Day 2017 were a true source of inspiration on my feed

…we recorded a drag-tacular episode of the podcast, where you’ll find us talking about all things relating to RuPaul’s Drag Race (or as much as you can squeeze into 40-ish minutes anyway)

…Queen Michelle is starting an arts and crafts movement in the most stylish way imaginable. My favourite outfit post of the week!

And with that, I’m off to make some broccoli slaw and finalise the frocks I’ll be dropping off at Buchanan Galleries tomorrow! Have an awesome few days and I’ll see you next week.

Friday Hi-Fives: Shoes, Spa Fun and Sweet Potato Korma!

sweet potato korma

Happy weekend, everyone! We’ve made it through Storm Doris and hopefully things will calm down enough for us to get outside and have some fun over the next few days (a gal can dream, right).

Since we last hi-fived, I’ve been splashing around at the Village Hotel spa with Boohoo (more on that next week!), getting a makeover in the back of a taxi with BareMinerals (yup, really!) and picking my must-have pair of shoes at the Next Perfect Shoes event (they’re black and very chunky…let’s just say there’s a teeny goth girl that still lives in my soul).

All of that gallivanting was bound to work up an appetite, which is why I was very excited to visit Crossing The Rubicon, which has recently opened on Great Western Road. Filled with delicious Indian-inspired street food, and more craft beer than you could ever want, it’s well worth checking out. I went along as part of the #BloggingTheRubicon event, and got to try several of the dishes – the Roast Carrot & Sweet Potato Korma is pretty darn special! I can’t wait to go back for round two…

This weekend I’m looking forward to checking out the Glasgow Vintage & Flea Market at Barras Art and Design. It’s the first of a new series of markets which will take place on the last Sunday of each month. With plenty of homeware for me to snoop around, plus appearances from a few of my favourites like Habiib, it’s shaping up to be a good one! See you guys there?

I hope your weekend is off to an awesome start! If you’re hibernating at home, here are a few links I’ve been loving lately – feel free to add them to your reading list.

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…why throw shade when you can bask in the sun? My girl Vicky talks girl-on-girl hate and why it needs to stop. NOW.

…I read this a few days ago and it was one of the most interesting articles I’ve seen all week: Ashanti is asking the question Is Attending London Fashion Week Still Relevant for Bloggers? Click here to read her take on this hot topic.

…you know what’s better than peanut butter? Home made peanut butter. And do you know what’s EVEN better than that? Easy home made peanut butter! Katy is sharing her recipe and my mouth filled with saliva just reading it!

…I was curious to find out how people put the Pomodoro technique of working / resting into practice and it turns out Xandra is sharing a handy guide to how she does it over on her blog.

…new lipstick is something I need like a hole in the head… but that still isn’t stopping me from obsessing over the Kat Von D Rock Candy collection. THREE shades of bright pink, you guys. Need I say more?

I’m putting my out of office on for the next couple of days and I hope you’ve got some down time to enjoy this weekend too! See you next week!

Friday Hi-Fives: Celebrations, Cake and Cinema

hi-fives

Whoosh! It’s the end of the week AND the start of a new month – January seems to have just flown by, doesn’t it? I hope your 2017 is off to a fun and fabulous start so far.

Lately, I’ve visited a few new places around town to grab a bite to eat – including Chaakoo and Temaki in the city centre, and you can expect much more on Temaki next week! I’ve also been doing a ton of research for our big US road trip in a couple of months – making notes and bookmarking all of the places we want to check out.

This week, I’ve been making plans to catch up with some friends that I haven’t seen in a long time – including Silvia, who is in town celebrating her company Chouchou’s seventh birthday (SEVEN YEARS?! How did that happen?) for a few days. I’m also excited to see my friend Fiona, because no matter how long it’s been, we always pick up where we left off the last time.

If you’re in Glasgow tomorrow and fancy something a bit different, Ross Street Market is on from 11am to 5pm at The Barras. Expect art, food, drink and more from the likes of Julie’s Street Kitchen, Freddy & Hicks and other local independent companies. My mouth is already watering at the thought of Julie’s Malaysian-inspired street food!

Before I drift off into a food-related daydream, let’s share some more good stuff!

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…I’m STILL obsessing over La La Land and I’m plotting a repeat trip to the cinema. If you HAVEN’T seen it yet, put it on your to-do list and check out Gary’s (spoiler-free) thoughts to get you started

…Ayden’s been supporting the Jo’s Cervical Cancer #SmearForSmear campaign and talking all about why us girls shouldn’t be skipping those important appointments

…multicoloured holographic nails, you say? If I’m walking around staring at my hands and bumping into walls then you know why (and it’s all Swoon Nails’ handiwork!)

…Junk Kouture is arriving in Glasgow next week with its show of fashion design and wearable art from young talent – find out more about the event and how to attend here

…we spent a lovely afternoon lunching and laughing to celebrate my dad’s birthday last weekend. Oh, and it’s not a birthday without cake, am I right?

Here’s to making this weekend awesome – I’ve got a busy week ahead so I fully intend to spend the next few days hanging out with my nearest and dearest.

Who gets your hi-fives today?

Until next week…
