Electric Ink Skincare for Tattoo Lovers

Gary and I have been getting tattooed for a long time now and between the two of us, we have quite the collection (you can check out a full ‘tour’ of my tattoos here!). The number one question that we’re often asked from strangers is how our tattoos are still so bright after all these years, and our answer is pretty straightforward: look after them! Moisturising and protecting your tattoos long after the healing process is over is honestly the most important thing you can do, especially if they are a big part of your personal style.

Keeping everything looking fresh and vibrant can be challenging, especially when you’ve had some of your tattoos for a number of years, so we’re always on the lookout for anything that might give us a hand!

Electric Ink tattoo care initially caught my eye due to their beautiful branding, and I was keen to find out more about this new range of products to see if they were more than just a pretty package.

The collection – which is exclusive to Superdrug – consists of a daily moisturiser, a vibrancy serum and a defining body oil. All three Electric Ink products are vegan friendly, and use nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, plant extracts and vitamin C to hydrate the skin and help maintain the colour pigment of your tattoos.

You could choose to incorporate the defining body oil into your usual skincare routine – it’s helpful against sun damage (but ALWAYS use SPF too!) and it smells great! It’s also in a handy spray bottle, which is useful if you have tattoos in hard to reach areas (and I do!).

Gary’s latest tattoo is a portrait of Bosley – I love it so much!

The vibrancy serum and daily moisturiser by Electric Ink are perfect for helping to enhance your tattoos, while giving your skin a treat at the same time. The daily moisturiser is light in texture and ideal for quenching dry skin, and it’s probably the product we reach for the most. The vibrancy serum is less of an ‘everyday’ product, but it’s great for helping tattoos look fresh and defined – I can see it especially coming in handy when I’m shooting photos.

So far, both Gary and I have been impressed with this collection. It’s refreshing to see products on the market aimed at maintaining healed tattoos, especially as you can just walk into Superdrug and pick them up. Our tattoos are a reflection of who we are, from our first ever pieces right through to our most recent work – so we want them to look as good as possible for as long as possible!

Have you tried any of the Electric Ink line? Tell me about your first tattoo!

Beauty Hit List: April & May 2017

April and May have gone by in a flash and suddenly it’s time for another Beauty Hit List! These are the latest products that I’ve been reaching for and, as always, some are new releases while the others are simply new to me!

Let’s dive in and take a look…

Marula Oil range by Paul Mitchell

One of the reasons why I don’t tend to grow my hair out much is because I have really, REALLY thick hair. And, no matter what length it is, it can get a bit difficult to manage if I don’t look after it! I love discovering new ways to treat my locks and keep them feeling soft and the Marula Oil styling products have the moisture boost of a hair mask built into their sprays and creams. The Rare Oil Style Extending Primer is my favourite from the collection – it’s been ideal for quenching my hair during the hot weather lately.

Solait SPF 50 Moisturising Sun Lotion by Superdrug

I’m a bit of a broken record when it comes to wearing sunscreen I will admit but, at this time of year, it’s more important than ever to have a tube of SPF 50 in your handbag. One of the best things about summer is how spontaneous you can be, right? An afternoon in the park can suddenly turn into dinner al fresco (and beyond), so I’m keeping this Superdrug Solait sunscreen handy for wherever the day takes me. Feel the burn? Not on my watch!

Unicorn Snot glitter hair and body gel

Had to. I was in a drugstore in Aspen earlier this month when a basket of sparkles caught my eye and, when I investigated further, I found jars of Unicorn Snot! Not only did I give in to the name but the sparkly gel also made me feel very nostalgic! I figured it would come in handy for glitter roots, smearing on my cheekbones and much more. Plus, it’s a jar of pink glitter, guys – I don’t need any other reasons. Ten bucks well spent!  #sorrynotsorry

Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy by NARS

Oh, friends – if there was ever a clever ploy to entice me to buy a beauty product, naming the colours after Prince songs is a surefire way to win me over! Dig if you will, the picture: I was cruising the aisles in Sephora and checking out the NARS counter when, all of a sudden, the names of the shades started to feel oh-so-familiar. Dirty Mind. Do Me, Baby. Get Off. Pop Life. It was the dream we all dream of (or at least, the dream I dream of!). So I limited myself to just one – a rich, vivid pink in Let’s Go Crazy. I can’t promise that I won’t go back for the others soon though – after all, what good is a playlist with only one song?

Well Heeled Express Pedicure System by Magnitone

Summer means sandals, and sandals usually mean getting your feet out. Which is great, except I’ve had tights and boots on for the last five months and I don’t think you’re ready for these tootsies. Heck, I’m not sure I am! However, there’s something super relaxing about giving yourself a home pedicure, and this express system from Magnitone is ideal for buffing and smoothing my feet during a Netflix marathon. So if you see me parading around in open-toed shoes, it’s all down to Magnitone!

I guess this edition of the Beauty Hit List really does cover everything from head to toe! But what else do I need to check out? Be sure to tell me what’s made your list too!
