Beauty Hit List: October & November 2017

beauty hit list

You guys, it’s officially winter, how the heck did that happen? Along with the drop in temperature, everything else has changed – my wardrobe, my choice of hot drinks and even my beauty habits. At this time of year, I’m living for makeup worthy of fun festive fiestas, cosy baths and skincare treats, how about you?

I thought it was about time I shared another Beauty Hit List, and my current favourite products are a true sign of the season. Let’s dive in, shall we?

beauty hit list

Advanced Night Repair by Estee Lauder

Earlier this month, I got a lovely introduction to one of Estee Lauder’s most iconic products over dinner at Ox and Finch with the team from Estee Lauder. According to a ton of articles, Advanced Night Repair serum is a top-selling repair serum but what does that mean and what does it do? Well, I’ve been using it along with my favourite moisturiser before bed for the last few weeks and I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin already! As well as feeling hydrated (so important during the colder months), I’ve also noticed my skin looking smoother and more even-toned. I’ll keep on using it and report back again soon!

Orangutan Soap by LUSH

Usually at this time of year, I’m likely to be found knee-deep in LUSH’s Christmas products (after all, the Snow Fairy addiction is real, am I right?). However, on my recent visit to their Buchanan Street store, I walked past their festive bath bombs and picked up one of the limited edition Orangutan soaps. These little guys smell yummy (thanks to the orange and patchouli oils!), look adorable and all sales of the soap help conserve the wild Sumatran orangutans by restoring their native forests. There’s plenty of time for the Christmas range – in the meantime, I’ll be scrubbing up like King Louie.

Pink Lemonade Bath Fizz by A Pony Called Steve

Made in Scotland, cruelty-free and beautifully packaged, there’s a lot to love about new-to-me indie beauty company A Pony Called Steve! Their loose bath fizz smells oh-so-sweet and it’s perfect for making winter bath times a little less gloomy. When I’m feeling mega indulgent, I’ll throw a few big handfuls in and still have a lot left in the jar to play with next time…

Meteor Storm & Fall in Love palettes and Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops by Barry M

Barry M have really pulled out all the stops this year! Their latest drop of eyeshadow palettes are seriously dreamy, with oodles of warm and cool tones to play with and create the ultimate Christmas party eye. My favourites are the Meteor Storm palette, which is packed with metallic shades, and the Fall in Love one, which has ten rich shadows that remind me of sunsets!

On top of that, Barry M have also released their Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops, which I’ve loved using lately. These work really well when buffed in with a brush and can be used to build as subtle or dynamic a look as you like.

So, this is what’s made it into my latest Beauty Hit List – but what about you? What are you loving at the moment and what should I try next?

DECIEM Arrives in Glasgow: 5 Things You Need to Know

DECIEM

When it comes to beauty brands, Glasgow is a funny old town. Our high streets, shopping malls and department stores are bursting at the seams with cosmetics companies, yet we just can’t seem to get enough! House of Fraser’s beauty haul hall is a perfect example of this – it’s an Aladdin’s Cave of endless lotions and potions, but it’s always making room for new additions to its impressive line-up.

Standing out from the crowd can be tough when there are oh-so-many big names to choose from but, when DECIEM arrived in House of Fraser’s ground floor last week, beauty addicts all over town felt their spidey senses tingling and my Twitter feed was going at light speed!

But who are DECIEM, and why should you be excited about them coming to Glasgow? Here are 5 things to get you started…

DECIEM

  1. DECIEM are an ‘abnormal’ beauty company in the BEST sense of the word! Growing rapidly in just 4 years (starting with just 2 employees, now they have over 120), DECIEM do a lot of things their own way – such as adopting a very hands-on approach to developing the 10+ brands under their company name and being committed to authenticity. If you tell them that they can’t do something, it just spurs them on to prove people wrong – and that’s a philosophy I can totally get behind.
  2. Their price points will surprise you. Six quid for the cult foundation that everyone is raving about? Now, that’s pretty damn fabulous. DECIEM believe that quality isn’t defined by a price tag, so you can pick up your shade (and, psst – they have 21 to choose from!) even if you’re a babe on a budget. DECIEM
  3. DECIEM have more then 10 unique brands under their belt – and they’re all cruelty-free. Taking on skincare, haircare, makeup, supplements, grooming and bodycare is ambitious enough as it is but making sure their practices are cruelty-free shows that DECIEM really are a brand that stick to their guns (and no, they don’t sell in mainland China either!).
  4. Instagram filter in a bottle? #YESPLEASE! DECIEM’s NIOD Photography Fluid was one of those products that beauty writers went bananas over when it was first released and it’s just as popular today. Smoothing, evening and brightening skin for that ‘photo ready’ look, it can be mixed with foundation or worn on its own.
  5. DECIEM’s Hand Chemistry hand cream has been THEE #1 seller at Boots every week. And I know Boots stock a ton of hand cream! Hand Chemistry is a multi-functional cream, targeting dryness, dark spots and signs of ageing. Like a fancy face cream but, y’know, for your paws! It flies off the shelves constantly, and now it’s in House of Fraser too – hooray!

You can find the new DECIEM concession in House of Fraser Buchanan Street; just next to Jo Malone. Will you be paying them a visit? And what sorts of things make YOUR spidey sense tingle?

Beauty Hit List: July & August 2017

Beauty Hit List

It’s the end of another month – the end of summer too (*weeps*) – and it’s time for another Beauty Hit List. If you’re new to the blog, these posts are a little round-up of my current MVP’s from the world of beauty, alongside those taking pride of place in my routine. Some products are brand new, some are sneaky previews and some are tried-and-trusted favourites.

This edition feels a little bit extra, covering makeup, skincare, haircare and even perfume! Whoa! So, let’s take a look at who made the cut for July & August…

Beauty Hit List

Hair: Pramasana purifying scalp cleanser by Aveda

Doesn’t your scalp almost feel nicer just by saying those words? Well, luckily this one is more than just a pretty name! What’s the difference between a shampoo and a scalp cleanser? Well, a shampoo cleans your hair, not your scalp! As someone who has a tricky scalp at the best of times, this refreshing treatment from Aveda is perfect for when things get a little itchy and unfcomfortable. It’s packed with invigorating ingredients like seaweed extract to soothe and I’ve been using it every couple of weeks to keep my scalp feeling healthy!

Beauty Hit List

Scent: Mon Guerlain

It almost felt criminal that I hadn’t tried out any of Guerlain’s fragrances until this summer. After all, this iconic brand have been in the perfume biz since the 1820s and have quite the list of innovations under their belt (including the first unisex fragrance! Take THAT, Calvin Klein!). Even though I missed out on their first 750 or so perfumes, I feel like I’ve picked a great one to start with! Mon Guerlain is fresh and light, making it very easy to wear. It’s a feminine scent with notes of jasmine and vanilla – not quite as sweet as the perfumes I usually go for but it’s a nice change, not smelling like a bag of skittles.

Beauty Hit List

Face: AHA/ BHA Exfoliating Cleanser and Invisiblur Perfecting Shield by Murad

Over the last couple of months, my skin was really giving me a run for my money. Lumpy and red, it had me totally buggin’ and feeling more self-conscious than I’d been in ages. My friend Laura is always raving about Murad’s products and I gave a couple a try over the last few weeks to see if the could help my skin woes! I was surprised (and delighted!) to see a difference after using the cleanser for the first time. My skin isn’t perfect but it’s making great progress AND I feel like myself again! I’m using this daily at the moment.

The second product I have been enjoying lately is the perfecting shield, which has SPF 30 and feels like a silky smooth primer, making it nice to wear on its own or under makeup.

Beauty Hit List

Makeup (part one!): Dandelion Twinkle and Foolproof by Benefit

Anything with the word ‘twinkle’ in it is bound to make me sit up and pay attention! Dandelion Twinkle is brand new from Benefit and is the sassier, sparklier sister of their classic Dandelion blush. I’ve been swiping mine on my cheekbones for some added party time shimmer and, let’s not forget, those supermarket trips that demand a little VA VA VOOM.

Benefit also launched Foolproof recently as part of their ever-expanding line of brow tools. Foolproof gives a softer look compared to some of their other products (I can get a bit heavy-handed with the ol’ KA-BROW, I will admit!), so it’s actually ideal for using in the weeks following a brow appointment for little touch ups! The handbag-friendly packaging makes it great for taking on-the-go too.

Beauty Hit List

Makeup (part deux!): High Pigment Wet and Dry Eyeshadow by KIKO Milano

Next up on the Beauty Hit List, KIKO Milano! The budget-friendly makeup recently arrived in Edinburgh and I can’t get enough of their super bright, vivid eyeshadows. The High Pigment Wet & Dry range is particularly impressive, delivering bendable colour that looks as good on as it does sitting in the packaging. I’ve been mixing these two shades together and loving how striking it looks.

Beauty Hit List

Makeup (part C!): Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Highlighting Stick

Another highlighter? Well, yes! I’m a fan of anything that comes in stick form (take choc-ices, for example!) and this creamy highlighting stick from Revlon is a new favourite. Easy to apply (I’ve made no mistakes yet and I’m no expert!) and very buildable, it makes a killer combo when you team it with blush and your best contouring.

Beauty Hit List

Phew! I hope you enjoyed this bumper edition of my Beauty Hit List! I want to hear from you, too – have you tried out any of these products yourself? What should I try next? And do you like smelling like Skittles, too (or is it just me)?
