Dark Circles Begone with Benefit Boi-ing!

When it comes to makeup, there are probably one or two things that, if I really had to ditch, I could manage without. But when it comes to my most-used makeup, concealer is up at the top of my list! I wear concealer daily (for reasons we’ll get to in a moment!) so, when I heard about a new collection of Benefit Boi-ing concealers, I was more than a little intrigued.

I often joke that without makeup, my dark circles could give Uncle Fester a run for his money but sometimes I feel like I’m only exaggerating a little! I’ve been in a long-term relationship with concealer since my late teens in an effort to hide those bad boys. Ever wanted to know what the greatest cover-up in human history is? Look no further.

But all joking aside, a good concealer goes a long way to making me look and feel a little more like myself (along with a bright lipstick of course!) and, with four concealers in the range, it seems like the Benefit Boi-ing line-up has something for everyone looking to conceal in a flash.

Did I mention the new candy pink packaging is as cute as a button too? Let’s take a look at all four…

To start, there’s the Boi-ing Airbrush concealer, which is a lightweight, buildable formula that is easily patted onto the skin and gives a lovely smooth finish. I tried this recently to even out red patches after my last eyebrow wax and was really impressed.

Next up, I tested the Boi-ing Hydrating concealer which is a stick concealer enriched with Vitamin E and aims to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Although my skin looked smoother and felt really nice with this one on, it just wasn’t a full enough coverage for me and I would probably use it combined with another product next time.

BUT WAIT… did someone say ‘industrial strength’?!! Now yer talking! The Benefit Boi-ing Industrial Strength concealer is a full coverage matte concealer – it’s the original Benefit Boi-ing concealer from back in the day with a sassy makeover. I’ve used this one on dark circles, breakouts, broken veins and more. It lasts for ages too, with minimal touch-ups required (once it’s on, it’s on). This one is my favourite of the collection (even though it’s the least pink of all the packaging!).

A very close second is the Boi-ing Brightening concealer though, which is another full-coverage gem. This one is specifically designed for targeting dark circles (some of you makeup aficionados may remember it by its former name, Erase Paste) and has brightening, colour-correcting undertones to help give that coveted illusion of a gal who’s had 12 hours rest and no need for caffeine (who are these people? Do they live among us?!). Top tip: use a little brush to blend this one in.

I might not be able to wave a magic wand and take away my dark circles but this new collection does a pretty awesome job of smoothing, evening out tone and covering things up. Each item in the Benefit Boi-ing collection is £17.50 and available now!

Have you tried any of Benefit’s new concealers? And be honest, when was the last time you had 12 hours’ sleep…?

Where to Have Brunch in Glasgow: My Top Picks

This is a post that’s been a long time coming. I mean, if you happen to catch my Instagram Stories on a weekend (and let’s be honest – the odd weekday here and there…), you’re more than likely to catch me brunching – yes, it’s probably a cliche, and I’m totally OK with that. Brunch in Glasgow is serious business after all.

I think I first declared my love of the humble brunch here and, over the last few months, I’ve been getting more and more requests to share my favourite brunch spots across the city. Rather than split them up into separate posts, I thought I would share my top picks of where to have brunch in Glasgow in one handy round up!

These places all offer something unique, over and above your usual run-of-the-mill eggs and bacon. You’ll soon see why they are my favourites!

Grab a fork and let’s dig in…

Cafe Strange Brew, 1109 Pollokshaws Road

Keeping Shawlands strange since 2015, Glasgow indie cafes don’t come much cooler than our Strange Brew. Not only have these guys recently moved into a bigger space (because, damn, the demand for avo-on-toast in the Southside is STRONG!) but they’ve also given their menu a little bit of a makeover with more of their awesome twists on the traditional bunch fare! My tip? Order the pancakes with apricot, lavender honey, mascarpone and blueberries. Or basically any of their magical one-off weekend specials. Hashtag YASS.

Crossing The Rubicon, 372 Great Western Road

Some of you might remember that I talked about Crossing The Rubicon fairly recently BUT, as well as their excellent vegetarian curries, the restaurant also offers a pretty fantastic brunch menu. What sets them apart is that they still bring their experimental, East-meets-West (end!) style to their brunches and you can expect Besan toast and a fully loaded breakfast naan to name just a couple of dishes. My favourite is the sweet potato hash & eggs – served in a skillet and pure comfort food at its best.

Singl-end Cafe and Bakehouse, 265 Renfrew Street

One of the (many, many) things that keeps me coming back to Singl-end is that, not only do they serve brunch, cake and kick-ass playlists all under one roof, but they are also a bakery. Which means the smell of fresh artisan bread is constantly wafting in the air (if that smell was a perfume, I’m not ashamed to say I would probably wear it…). Which means you get to eat still-warm, fluffy slices with your brunch (ooh, heaven is a place on earth!) and who could say no to that?! I just love Singl-end’s take on Eggs Benedict – their cashew and tarragon ‘hollandaise’ is the bomb. Get it with an egg-stra (sorry!) slice of bread for dipping and thank me later!

Bottomless Brunch at McPhabbs, 23 Sandyford Place

You know what’s even better than one plate of brunch? How about multiple plates of brunch?! In just a few short months, the bottomless brunch extravaganzas at McPhabbs have become sell-out events for foodies all over Glasgow. Gary and I managed to book places for the most recent one, which took place last weekend. The menu is different each time, which keeps things super fun and interesting. Last weekend, we enjoyed an American diner-themed feast – peanut butter and jelly French Toast, anyone? Also, coffee aficionados may like to note that they serve Papercup coffee. Just sayin’…

Until they invent a meal between breakfast and brunch, it’s safe to say you’ll catch me grabbing brunch in Glasgow most weekends at any of these spots! But I want to hear from you too: where is your favourite brunching hangout? And, would YOU wear perfume that smelled like fresh baking?

Beauty Hit List: December & January 2017

beauty hit list

Welcome to the first Beauty Hit List of the year! It feels like forever since I last shared a round-up of my favourite cosmetic crushes with you guys, so I’ve been really looking forward to this one.

Today I’m sharing some of the products that have been (literally!) saving my skin each day, seeing me through New Year celebrations in style and keeping my locks in check. So let’s dive in and take a peek, shall we?

Ultra Facial Balm by Kiehl’s

It’s no secret by now that I’m a huge lover of Kiehl’s products, and I’ve gushed about their Ultra Facial Cream previously, due to its ability to keep my dry skin feeling super hydrated. Their Ultra Facial Balm takes this to a whole new level and it’s been my go-to for emergency levels of flakiness this winter!

Kiehl’s call this their ‘ultimate hydration blanket’, which is actually better than any description that I could come up with. It FEELS like a blanket in that it is soothing and comforting and makes the dry, rough skin I get around my nose and hairline feel soft and smooth instantly. It’s also non-greasy so, even though I slather my face in it some days, I don’t look like I have, hurrah!

Glitter pots by Sara Hill

Fact: glitter makes everything better. It just does, OK? If you agree, then you’re in good company and I highly recommend checking out Sara Hill’s range of glitter for grown-ups ASAP! These pots of loose glitter look perfect pressed on top of a cream eyeshadow, twinkling under the lower lashes or worn over lipstick for a dramatic (and fabulous!) look. To be honest, the beauty of these cruelty-free glitters is in how versatile they are, and they are so much fun to play with.

I wore some during New Year’s Eve in a geometric-inspired shape (go big or go home, eh?) using some of Sara Hill’s glitter fix to hold it in place. There are 12 dazzling shades to choose from (you can see Queen P and Royal Purple above) – next on my shopping list is the irridescent Crystal Tits glitter because I think it’ll be a must-have for my Vegas trip…

i-illuminise Liquid Illuminiser by New CID Cosmetics

My name is Lynsay and I am officially a highlighter convert – and you can thank this i-illuminise by New CID Cosmetics for that. Inside this shiny silver tube is a liquid highlighter that has the most gorgeous, pearlescent glow. I’ve been wearing it buffed into my cheekbones, brow bones, my cupid’s bow, the tip of my nose (not all at once I might add!)…did I say ‘convert’ because I clearly meant to say ADDICT!

The dewy finish along with the brush on applicator makes it a easy to add a bit of shimmer to your every day make up look and build up as much of a highlight as you like. It’s been in my makeup bag every day since December.

Everlasting Liquid Lipstick by Kat Von D at Debenhams

The day that Kat Von D makeup stopped being a Sephora exclusive and became available at our very own Debenhams in the UK, I swear you could hear a Mexican wave-like squeal of delight if you listened hard enough! Of all the Kat Von D products I’ve tried over the years, the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are, in my opinion, the best. Non-drying, extremely pigmented and in a range of lust-worthy shades, the liquid lipsticks last up to an impressive 24 hours – making them perfect for nights out.

Backstage Bambi was previously my weapon of choice, but I’ve recently tried out Bauhau5 (pictured above), and love its bold berry hue – the perfect pop of colour on a grey January day.

Damage Remedy Split End Repair by Aveda

Sometimes post-party season hair needs some TLC and luckily Aveda have the perfect range to help out! This Split End Repair treatment from Aveda’s Damage Remedy collection is just the thing to repair hair that has split and also to prevent new damage forming. I’ve been smoothing the cream into my hair after it’s been washed, dried and styled so it can do its thing while I’m out and about. Also, unlike some treatments I’ve tried, as well as making my hair look a lot healthier, it smells AMAZING. If you see me swishing my hair around any time soon, this is why!
