A Sugar Coated Spring

I don’t know about you, but I am SO READY to retire my winter layers and get into the swing of spring! My faithful faux fur coat is starting to feel like a villain in a bad movie…just when you think you’ve seen the last of him, he comes back out. To celebrate the four day weekend over Easter, I put together this Spring-inspired outfit from some of the 80 stores at Buchanan Galleries, and spent a fun afternoon with Gary walking around our old neighbourhood.

Outfit Details:
Sugar Coated tee | H&M
Gingham skirt | Mango
Silver camera bag | Accessorize
Hair flower | Claire’s
Puma sneakers | Kids Footlocker (yep, really!)
Fuchsia Fever lipstick | Benefit Cosmetics at Boots

All available at Buchanan Galleries

Hair by #BLOW | Nails by Swoon Nails

We visited the Botanic Gardens, where it feels like a spring day all year round! I’d visited #BLOW earlier that morning for a quick hair appointment, and they gave me the 1960s fantasy bouffant of my dreams. It just goes to show that you can get the Priscilla Presley-meets-Betty Rubble hair you’ve always wanted (you just need the right salon!).

My favourite part of this outfit has to be the mint Sugar Coated tee from H&M. I’ve been falling in love with slogan tees all over again lately, and that pastel green shade has ‘Spring’ written all over it!

Also, can we just take five and talk about these creeper-style Puma sneakers? Yes, they are technically definitely from a children’s shoe store, but hey – if the shoe fits (boom boom!), who am I to complain? I walked around in them all day, from the Botanic Gardens, to lunch at West on the Corner, and back into the city centre again. Cute AND comfy!

I hope you guys have been starting to enjoy the sunnier days and got a chance to take it easy over Easter. Thank you for your patience and support with my blog rebrand also – I really appreciate it and can’t wait to reveal more!

Tell me, have you started wearing your favourite Spring pieces yet? And which cartoon character’s hair do YOU most admire?

Here’s to a sugar coated spring…

The Spring 2016 To-do List

Photo from my Instagram

Spring has sprung! Or at least, according to my planner, we’ve had the first official day of Spring recently! Either way, I couldn’t be happier about the arrival of the longer, warmer (and of course, brighter!) days – and have already started planning what I want to do to make the most of things.

Seasonal checklists have become a little tradition around here, but rather than simply repost this from last Spring, I’ve made a few updates (and kept the classics of course!). There’s just something about Spring… it has an amazing feeling of NEWNESS. After all, we have almost a whole year ahead of us, just waiting. Are you excited? I know I am!

Welcome to your Spring 2016 to-do list – now, unpeel a few of those knitted layers, grab your Easter eggs and let’s get started…

1. Find a new signature lip colour – the brighter the better! My Springtime shade this year is violet, how about you?

2. Brighten up your table (or your hair!) with some beautiful blooms

3. Embrace the newness of Spring and learn a new skill!

4. Snap a photo of the first cherry blossoms that you spot this year

5. Get a pastel coloured manicure – feel inspired by Easter eggs, fluffy chicks and cheery Springtime hues

6. Update your interior décor – this is the perfect time to paint a bold statement wall, rearrange your furniture or take on a fun DIY project

7. It’s time to get ruthless and do a clear out (don’t forget to donate!) and ditch the pieces you’ve been hoarding for ages

8. …and as a reward, treat yourself to a little Spring wardrobe update

9. Plan a road trip! Where do YOU want to visit this Summer? Make a list and feel inspired!

10. Bake something delicious and eat it al fresco in the park with your BFF

These are just a few of the ways I’ll be celebrating the arrival of Spring – how about you? Do you have any must-do’s that you think we should add to the Spring 2016 to-do list? Let me know!

Here’s to a happy, colourful Spring…

Is It Spring Yet? Denim and Florals at Kelvingrove

IMG_9566It’s that strange time of year when Spring hasn’t quite kicked in yet, but I’m feeling 100% ready to embrace some of its style cues in my wardrobe (even if i means I still need to layer up a little!). Its been a long, dark winter – great for hibernating and watching Netflix, but I want to put on something floral and frolic around outside now, okay?

Last weekend, Gary and I took advantage of the dry weather and headed out for some lunch and coffee in Partick. It was great to see the busy farmers’ market in full swing and enjoy some bursts of sunshine as we walked.

Afterwards, we decided to take the scenic route to the city centre – swinging by Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and Kelvingrove Park. I’ve gushed about this grand building before, and every time I see it I gawk at it like a tourist! And who could blame me? It has to be one of THE most beautiful spots in Glasgow.

In the last year or two, I’ve developed quite the obsession with denim jackets! At this time of year, I wear them more like a denim shirt, and layer ’em up under coats. Then when the warmer months arrive, they are my go-to jacket for throwing on over a dress. I love how you can really make a denim jacket your own, with a few custom finishes here and there. I’ve used textile printing, iron-on patches and even sewing on sequins to give my beloved jackets a personal touch. This new indigo wash Pennymoor jacket from Fat Face is already super soft, as though I’ve already spent a season or two living in it – making it even easier to wear.

I haven’t completely finished customising this jacket yet, but for now I’ve added a few awesome pins, including this cute avocado by Sugar and Vice and my Girl Gang pennant pin by Lucky Dip Club. My necklace was a sweet gift from Helen last year – it’s one of my favourites and it’s by Ladybird Likes.

Mustard isn’t a colour that I wear too often, yet when I discovered this Botanic Skater Dress by Coco and Cleo, I could instantly see myself wearing it. The bright retro-inspired print is perfect for a fun day out, and it even has some groovy bell-shaped sleeves (which I will show off another day, when it gets warmer!).

At this time of year, who knows what the weather will throw at us? A pair of comfy boots that I can spend an entire weekend in, come rain or shine, are a must-have! These brown Shalford ankle boots (also by Fat Face) were certainly made for walkin’, and I happily clip-clopped around the city in them.

Toughening up a floral dress with some boots is one of my favourite outfit combos – it makes me feel like I’m in a badass girl group!

I’d just been to visit BLOW Finneston and had my bob freshened up. I wanted to show off my new ‘do, so I decided not to go TOO big with my hair accessories and instead opted for a simple pop of orange. My hair flower is an oldie, I’m pretty sure it’s from H&M circa 2008-ish…

A stroll around Kelvingrove was a great way to spend an afternoon, and I’m looking forward to many more this Spring. Be sure to put this part of town at the top of your list – file it under Weekend Walks!

Have you started to feel inspired by Spring? What is your favourite way to customise a jacket?

With love, retro prints and soft denim,

A huge thanks to the lovely people at Fat Face & Coco and Cleo for helping me get to ready for Spring
