Hollyhood Miss West End Girl Gets a Foxy Winter Makeover

This year has been full of fun creative projects and collaborations, though one of the most special to me has to be teaming up with the amazing Chouchou to work on our Hollyhood Miss West End Girl hood, which was released back in April.

Seeing the design come to life and being able to actually TOUCH it after weeks of planning, decisions and FaceTime meetings was such an awesome feeling. Not only were we happy with the final product, but so were the customers – the hood was a hit!

And just when I thought that the year was almost over, it turned out that there was room for one more collaboration. We decided that our bright, light summer hood could do with a warm winter revamp!

Today I’d love to share the result: the Hollyhood MWEG Star

We agreed that the oversized shape of the original hood was a must, so we made sure to keep that in the new design. This helps to create an exaggerated silhouette, especially from the side!

Winter calls for the kind of accessory that you just want to snuggle up in and, to make this the ultimate cosy piece we traded in our tropical-inspired jacquard for warm woollen fabric. Keeping the cold at bay doesn’t mean keeping it simple though – at least, not where prints are concerned! The geometric designs that dance across the wool reminded us both of stars, so it felt only right that we included a reference to them in the name of the hood.

Like with so many of Chouchou’s designs, this hood is reversible so you can style the white stars on a black background OR vice versa! The bold monochrome pattern looks great against most colours and textures, but I personally love it layered over indigo denim.

No matter which side you wear it on, the hood will be trimmed with a plush, super soft faux fur in a rusty, burnt orange. You know that rare, startling pop of colour that you get when you suddenly see a fox running across some snow? If you’ve ever been in Kelvingrove Park at the right moment in January then you might be familiar with it! Anyway, the contrast between the luxurious, foxy fur and the black and white patterned wool seemed to feel right (and you might just feel a little bit foxier while wearing it too!).

The Hollyhood MWEG Star is just as much of a statement piece as its summer sister, and is the perfect accessory for a long walk on a chilly day.

I couldn’t be more proud of how our third collaboration has turned out and it’s available now as part of the new Hood Stories collection! I hope you love it! Also (and yeah, just call me an enabler…) Chouchou just happen to have launched a sample sale TODAY, which means that you can treat yourself to a stylish Hollyhood from past collections – though with prices starting at £54, they won’t be around for long. Hop to it, kittens…

Have you checked out the new collection from Chouchou? What has been your favourite project you’ve worked on this year?

With love,

A Day in Edinburgh: The Great City Swap

The Great City Swap

Over the last year, I’ve visited Edinburgh quite a few times. From staying at friends’ houses, to attending events and most recently spending the afternoon at the LUSH Spa; one thing is guaranteed: I will ALWAYS have a good time.

A few days ago, I was invited to spend a fun-filled day in the capital as part of The Great City Swap by ScotRail and experience one or two new things while I was at it.

The Great City Swap

Encouraging the people of Glasgow and Edinburgh to literally swap cities for the day, The Great City Swap is all about sharing must-do activities, hidden gems and celebrating what makes these two destinations awesome!

Before I hopped on the train, I made a plan for my day out using another new feature from ScotRail…The Swapatron! This name immediately conjured up Futurama-esque robots in my mind, but what it actually involves is a bank of knowledge and insider tips from the people who know the cities best – their own residents!

The Great City Swap

Yup, within the 200 (and counting!) suggestions for a grand day out in Glasgow and Edinburgh you’ll find unique attractions, shopping , foodie recommendations and much more. You just enter the kinds of things you’re interested in and the Swapatron does the searching and sifting for you. Easy!

As a firm believer in supporting local businesses, I was over the moon when the app brought up several suggestions based on independent boutiques and cafes! My personalised itinerary also included a trip to Dynamic Earth, which I’d never heard of before but liked the sound of.

The Great City Swap

With my plan in hand (literally – seeing as it was emailed straight to my phone!) all that was left to do was sit on the train for the 50 minute journey to Waverley Station.

The Great City Swap

First up: lunch! I’m no stranger to the award-winning Hula juice bar, but I hadn’t been back to visit since the cafe had been redecorated by none other than the fabulous Karen Mabon. I was excited to revisit them and fuel up for the day ahead!

I had the avocado on sourdough toast and had to order one of their famous juices (I tried the Whirling Dervish – it was delicious!). So far the Swapatron got things spot on!

The Great City SwapNext, I headed for a walk through the quirky and colourful shops of the Grassmarket area and on towards Dynamic Earth – which you couldn’t possibly miss on Holyrood Gait because it is HUGE! Before stepping inside I was already impressed by how cool it looked, it was obvious why it is currently rated as the top visitor attraction in Edinburgh.

The enthusiasm of the team was infectious, “are you ready for some science?!” one whooped at me when I arrived, with the same manner you might expect from someone warming up the crowd for Beyonce. Yes, yes I was!

The Great City Swap

Over the next few hours I experienced walk-through simulations of The Big Bang, active volcanoes, icy tundras, tropical rainforests and much more. Oh, and watch out for raptors! Clever girl.

I really enjoyed it and if it hadn’t been for The Great City Swap, I might have never have thought to spend a day there. I didn’t do every single thing, but since Dynamic Earth hold special events from time to time I am sure I’ll find a good excuse to go back one day.

The Great City Swap

Thanks to another walk (this time back towards town), I got to appreciate all of the vintage touches dotted over Edinburgh. From original buildings, to old street signs and even a fully restored red double decker bus, the city seemed to ooze retro charm around every corner!

I finished my day cosied up at Hendersons for a vegan dinner and a slice of home-made pumpkin pie. It felt like the perfect finish to the perfect day out and, as I headed back to the station with the sun dipping down and the castle sitting looking all majestic in the distance, I was already wondering what I would get up to on my next visit.

If you fancy planning a trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh soon, take a tip (or three!) from the locals by visiting one of the Swapatron information hubs (located on Buchanan Street in Glasgow and St Andrews Square in Edinburgh), or click here to use the Swapatron app and learn more about The Great City Swap. You can also see what other people are up to on their visits by checking out #GreatCitySwap.

Tell me some of your favourite things to do in your city. Where should I visit next time?

The Art of the Lip With MAC Liptensity

MAC Liptensity

Since I first started wearing makeup, lipstick has been my ultimate indulgence. I’ve been incorporating a bold, bright lip into my personal style for well over a decade now (yikes!) and there’s nothing like a new lipstick collection to get my heart fluttering!

So, when I first heard about MAC Liptensity – a new collection of super-pigmented lip colours, I couldn’t wait to get the full scoop and discover some new shades to add to my regular rotation.

MAC Liptensity

Finding and creating a new line of lipsticks is hard enough but, when you already have the existing range that MAC does… well, let’s just say you need to call in the big guns and get to work on something truly unique. Which is exactly what MAC have done!

MAC Liptensity

Working with tetrachromat Maureen Seaberg (who has the ability to see up to 100 million hues imperceptible to the average eye), MAC Liptensity encapsulates 24 brand new colours with something for every makeup bag. This innovative approach is called High-Frequency Tetrachromatic Pigments technology – and means that the brand have been able to produce lipsticks in never-seen-before colours. A tall order, when you consider the sheer volume of lipsticks in production right now!

MAC Liptensity

I went along to the newly-launched MAC counter at House of Fraser recently to meet with MUA Michelle O’ Neill and get to know the new collection better.

MAC Liptensity

First of all, if you haven’t had a chance to check out the new MAC concession yet, put it on your to-do list the next time you go shopping in Glasgow! Bigger, brighter and beautifully merchandised, it’s the ultimate playground for makeup lovers. Right now, MAC are crushing hard on lipsticks, showcasing their take on The Art of the Lip with creative and colourful looks.

The MAC Liptensity collection has everything you need to create your new signature lip, with some dreamy colour names to boot. From Double Fudge (an intense, dark brown) to Gumball (a creamy baby pink),  Mulling Spices (a deep, burgundy-red) and beyond.

MAC Liptensity

I instantly fell in love with Habanero – a vibrant orange-red – from the collection, and Michelle incorporated this into the makeup look that she applied on me.

Usually I’m more of a vintage-inspired red (a la Lady Bug by MAC) or bright pink (hello, Girl About Town) kinda gal but, as the Liptensity collection is all about pushing the boundaries, it only felt right to try something new!

MAC Liptensity

Michelle decided to let my bold lip colour take centre stage and created a bespoke look with porcelain skin, winged eyeliner and warm, neutral eyeshadows. I couldn’t get over how eye-catching my lip colour was and I loved the fiery orange shade.

Since my appointment, I’ve been wearing a couple of the new colours (Habanero, of course, Gumball and Burnt Violet – a dark plum) and, as well as being very impressed with the soft, creamy formulas (that almost feel as though they are hugging my lips), I also can’t help but admire their undeniable staying power – lasting me through dinner and a trip to Starbucks after just one application.

The full MAC Liptensity collection is available now. Will you find a new take on your signature lip colour or try something totally unique?

Thank you to the team at MAC for inviting me to try the new collection! This post may contain samples/ PR opportunities but all words, opinions and lipstick obsessions are my own!
