Pink Flamingos at Anaheim GardenWalk

How long does it normally take for you to get into “holiday mode”? You know, the feeling when you finally stop thinking about things back home and just completely start to live in that happy little bliss bubble of holiday fun? As much as I love to get excited for time off and new adventures, I must admit that it usually takes me a couple of days! During our time in California, it was on the day we woke up and decided to visit the Anaheim GardenWalk.

After a hectic travel day, followed by two busy (but awesome!) days at Disneyland, it felt like a bit of a luxury to sleep in a little, take our time and go out for some lunch. I decided it was the perfect occasion to wear this Lindy Bop tea dress, which is adorned with pink flamingos!

Anaheim GardenWalk is less than a ten minute walk from Disneyland and, since the area was new to us, we enjoyed strolling under the palm trees, taking it all in. It’s home to a shopping, dining and entertainment complex – all outdoors and set out like a shopping mall.

The upper level was the most exciting part (for us!), as it has been converted into the Artists Republic Gallery – giving local artists space to showcase the work in the form of beautiful and brightly-coloured murals. We spent ages admiring the pieces and spotting work from artists that we recognised like Sara M Lyons!

It was a super hot day, one of those sticky ones that melts all your makeup off by noon (TMI?) BUT, as well as being very cute, this dress was also really light and cool to wear – which felt like a godsend, trust me! I also love the cut of the dress – I have two other frocks in this style from Lindy Bop in this ‘Clarissa’ silhouette. It has capped sleeves and a belted waist which, if I had my way, all of my dresses would have.

The most important part though? Well, that would obviously be the flamingos, which look as though they have been hand-painted onto the fabric (they haven’t, of course, but the print effect is almost like a watercolour – so pretty!).

After walking around the murals of the Anaheim GardenWalk, my flamingos and I took Gary for lunch, cheesecake and copious glasses of mango iced tea. It felt like the start of the perfect trip. Cheers to being on holiday mode!

A Sugar Coated Spring

I don’t know about you, but I am SO READY to retire my winter layers and get into the swing of spring! My faithful faux fur coat is starting to feel like a villain in a bad movie…just when you think you’ve seen the last of him, he comes back out. To celebrate the four day weekend over Easter, I put together this Spring-inspired outfit from some of the 80 stores at Buchanan Galleries, and spent a fun afternoon with Gary walking around our old neighbourhood.

Outfit Details:
Sugar Coated tee | H&M
Gingham skirt | Mango
Silver camera bag | Accessorize
Hair flower | Claire’s
Puma sneakers | Kids Footlocker (yep, really!)
Fuchsia Fever lipstick | Benefit Cosmetics at Boots

All available at Buchanan Galleries

Hair by #BLOW | Nails by Swoon Nails

We visited the Botanic Gardens, where it feels like a spring day all year round! I’d visited #BLOW earlier that morning for a quick hair appointment, and they gave me the 1960s fantasy bouffant of my dreams. It just goes to show that you can get the Priscilla Presley-meets-Betty Rubble hair you’ve always wanted (you just need the right salon!).

My favourite part of this outfit has to be the mint Sugar Coated tee from H&M. I’ve been falling in love with slogan tees all over again lately, and that pastel green shade has ‘Spring’ written all over it!

Also, can we just take five and talk about these creeper-style Puma sneakers? Yes, they are technically definitely from a children’s shoe store, but hey – if the shoe fits (boom boom!), who am I to complain? I walked around in them all day, from the Botanic Gardens, to lunch at West on the Corner, and back into the city centre again. Cute AND comfy!

I hope you guys have been starting to enjoy the sunnier days and got a chance to take it easy over Easter. Thank you for your patience and support with my blog rebrand also – I really appreciate it and can’t wait to reveal more!

Tell me, have you started wearing your favourite Spring pieces yet? And which cartoon character’s hair do YOU most admire?

Here’s to a sugar coated spring…

Friday Hi-Fives: Shoes, Spa Fun and Sweet Potato Korma!

sweet potato korma

Happy weekend, everyone! We’ve made it through Storm Doris and hopefully things will calm down enough for us to get outside and have some fun over the next few days (a gal can dream, right).

Since we last hi-fived, I’ve been splashing around at the Village Hotel spa with Boohoo (more on that next week!), getting a makeover in the back of a taxi with BareMinerals (yup, really!) and picking my must-have pair of shoes at the Next Perfect Shoes event (they’re black and very chunky…let’s just say there’s a teeny goth girl that still lives in my soul).

All of that gallivanting was bound to work up an appetite, which is why I was very excited to visit Crossing The Rubicon, which has recently opened on Great Western Road. Filled with delicious Indian-inspired street food, and more craft beer than you could ever want, it’s well worth checking out. I went along as part of the #BloggingTheRubicon event, and got to try several of the dishes – the Roast Carrot & Sweet Potato Korma is pretty darn special! I can’t wait to go back for round two…

This weekend I’m looking forward to checking out the Glasgow Vintage & Flea Market at Barras Art and Design. It’s the first of a new series of markets which will take place on the last Sunday of each month. With plenty of homeware for me to snoop around, plus appearances from a few of my favourites like Habiib, it’s shaping up to be a good one! See you guys there?

I hope your weekend is off to an awesome start! If you’re hibernating at home, here are a few links I’ve been loving lately – feel free to add them to your reading list.

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…why throw shade when you can bask in the sun? My girl Vicky talks girl-on-girl hate and why it needs to stop. NOW.

…I read this a few days ago and it was one of the most interesting articles I’ve seen all week: Ashanti is asking the question Is Attending London Fashion Week Still Relevant for Bloggers? Click here to read her take on this hot topic.

…you know what’s better than peanut butter? Home made peanut butter. And do you know what’s EVEN better than that? Easy home made peanut butter! Katy is sharing her recipe and my mouth filled with saliva just reading it!

…I was curious to find out how people put the Pomodoro technique of working / resting into practice and it turns out Xandra is sharing a handy guide to how she does it over on her blog.

…new lipstick is something I need like a hole in the head… but that still isn’t stopping me from obsessing over the Kat Von D Rock Candy collection. THREE shades of bright pink, you guys. Need I say more?

I’m putting my out of office on for the next couple of days and I hope you’ve got some down time to enjoy this weekend too! See you next week!

Love,
