Friday Hi-Fives: Werk It, Girl!

WERK IT GIRL

This has been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had in a REALLY REALLY long time. With project deadlines looming, my to-do list overflowing and my desk looking less “curated workspace” and more “send for the riot police”, I was pretty certain that Friday would never arrive.

Instead of feeling totally exhausted though, I now feel good – like I’m standing at the top of a mountain having clawed my way up to the top. The satisfaction of not only finishing a pile of work but feeling like you’ve given it your very best shot makes it all feel worthwhile. So, if you’ve had one of THOSE weeks, or if you’ve just been giving life 110% recently, a huge hi-five to you. Werk it, girl – we made it happen!

It’s not been all work (I’m going to stop saying werk now!) and no play this week though! On Saturday Gary and I grabbed lunch at Stereo (AH-MAZING vegan gnocchi!) and a quick dash around the shops before having our besties round for dinner later that day.

During the week, Halloween came extra early at The Academy of Makeup and I went along to a super spooky SFX & gore makeup workshop to get me in the mood for the witching hour. After watching an awesome demonstration by MUA Sophie Edwards, I had a go at creating faux wounds on myself which was a lot of fun! It’s safe to say I’m feeling very inspired now!

Last night I headed to Blythswood Square Hotel and enjoyed an evening with ila Spa and The East India Company. Talking (and drinking) tea, treatments and third eyes while in one of my favourite spots in the city centre was a very relaxing way to spend the evening.

Today I had a couple of beauty appointments (including my regular paw pampering at Swoon Nails!) and a rather exciting meeting with the team at Paulin Watches. More on that VERY soon but for now, let’s get the weekend started, shall we?

This week, I’m hi-fiving because…

…I’ve been reading the latest updates about Jon Favreau’s live-action reimagining of The Lion King and I think if it’s even half as good as The Jungle Book I am totally on board with it!

…Next week I’m going for my very first appointment at the LUSH Spa and I can’t wait

…Nord are bringing their delicious Scandi-inspired cuisine to For Fika Sake this month in a series of pop-up nights. Especially excited about the a veggie menu on the 28th!

…Feeling gutsy? The Academy of Makeup are running their insanely popular Halloween Makeup competition again this year and are looking to find the most gruesome and imaginative looks you can conjure up! Find out how to enter plus more details on the prizes here

…This adorable necklace by The Buddy Bear Design Company reminds me of holidays up north, Toblerones and one of my favourite Prince songs. Plus, if you fancy a pay day treat, you can snag a 20% discount on any of their necklaces by using WestEndGirl20 at the checkout!

Here’s to the weekend! See you next week, kitty cats.

Is It Too Early for Polar Bears?

too early for polar bears

With the leaves changing colour and tartan scarves hitting the streets (yes, really!), there’s no denying a new season is upon us! There’s only so long you can get away with wearing a sundress for from here on in (even with a few layers over it!), so I’ve been on the lookout for frocks that will see me into Autumn.

I can always count on Yumi to bring their A+ cute dress game no matter the time of year, and I think I might just have found my ‘ seasonal transition’ dress. But, there’s one question we need to get out of the way first…

Is it too early for polar bears?

I generally associate polar bears with *whispers* Christmas (I KNOW, it’s too early for all that malarkey – I won’t mention it again!) but you know what I mean, right? I can’t look at a polar bear without humming the Holidays Are Coming music in my head, but there’s something about dressing them up with a pussy bow and puffy sleeves that makes it feel OK to be wearing them in September!

This grey Yumi dress – stocked at House of Fraser along with oodles of other fun frocks – was an absolute godsend on a recent afternoon when the sun was shining but a strappy dress was out of the question (because, September!).

Earlier that day, I went to Swoon Nails for a morning of pampering with Alexandra Godwin and Louise Mitchell AKA Lexy and LouLou – the Swoon room’s newest additions. There’s no look that this glam squad can’t pull off and I left feeling like a million bucks!

Lunch, coffee and a walk around the neighbourhood while showing off my pin curls and fancy new makeup felt like the perfect way to spend an afternoon, so I met up with Gary back at the house and we headed out.

I decided my polar bear parade needed a pop of colour so used my mint Kate Spade bag to carry around my bits and pieces.

We tried out Ovenbird coffee for the first time that day and I wore this awesome Damn Fine Coffee brooch by Kate Rowland to celebrate. I like to think that Agent Cooper would be very proud! Oh, and the coffee was great by the way!

My gold flamingo earrings are by Lou Taylor and were a recent birthday present from my girl Casci. Quite possibly made to be worn with freshly coiffed locks, don’t you think?

I’m also wearing my old faithful monochrome Clarks t-bar shoes – they’re super comfy and ideal for a day of walking around.

After a day of styling up some jolly polar bears I am more than convinced they make an ideal transition into the chillier months without screaming Here Comes Santa Claus.

…just don’t put on any Slade songs while you’re wearing them, OK?

How have you been switching up your outfits for the new season? Would you wear polar bears in September too?

Here’s to relaxed afternoons and damn fine coffee,
