Diaries at the Ready! Indie Christmas Shopping Events in Glasgow

Christmas shopping events in Glasgow

Earlier this month, you might remember that I shared my visit to The Hidden Lane and a peek into some of the retailers and studios that you can find there. I left with plenty of gift inspiration and I’ve been making a list of some locally-made goodies (and checking it twice!) to spoil my nearest and dearest with!

It’s safe to say that I’m well and truly in the mood to shop now and, with just a few weeks left until Christmas, there are lots of awesome pop-ups, markets and in-store specials going on around town that are just too good to keep to myself.

Diaries at the ready, this is my guide to indie Christmas shopping events in Glasgow…

Etsy Made Local (2nd and 3rd December): Back by popular demand, this yearly market showcases the very best of Scottish Etsy creatives all under one roof at The Briggait. Spread across two days, you’ll find the likes of Bonnie Bling, Nikki McWilliams, Heather Margaret Grace and so much more. Be sure to follow the Glasgow Etsy Team on Instagram for previews of the sellers you can expect to see on both days!

Boutique by Shelter Scotland’s First Birthday (2nd December): Can you believe it’s been a whole year since Boutique by Shelter Scotland opened their doors on Byres Road? It’s great to see an initiative like this thriving in Glasgow! This weekend, the shop is celebrating the festive season AND their first birthday with cake, mince pies and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Festive Fun at Sunshine No 1 (Sunday 3rd December): There’s a special festive day planned this Sunday at Mount Florida’s cutest gift shop! Shop for Christmas cards and stocking fillers while enjoying mulled wine and mince pies. The fabulous Claire Barclay will also be there drawing pop-up portraits, such a great idea for a present (or a treat for yourself!).

Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Glad Rags (7th December): The Southside’s most stylish thrift store are throwing a special shopping evening next Thursday with a ton of bargains to be snapped up from 6pm to 9pm! All of their stock will be 3 for 2 and guest crafter Luna Viola Design will also be there with her signature marble effect jewellery. Why not round up your girl gang and make a night of it – The Glad Cafe (next door) is open until midnight…

The Glasgow Markets x Kiehl’s Xmas Pop Up Market (10th December): Both the Glasgow Vintage & Flea Market at the Glasgow Independent Market have been a huge hit this year, attracting massive crowds to their monthly events at BAaD. On 10th December a range of the markets’ finest stalls will be popping up at Kiehl’s Buchanan Street with funds being raised for the MTV Staying Alive Charity. There’ll also be a DJ, cocktail bar and giveaways in signature Kiehl’s party spirit!

Hopefully you’ll fancy visiting one (or all!) of these Christmas shopping events in Glasgow over the next few weeks. Whether you love discovering local businesses, supporting good causes or indulging in a bit of holiday cheer, there’s something to suit everyone!

3 Alternative Ways to Shop This Christmas

 alternative ways to shop

It’s the last day of November so, if you haven’t started to at least plan your Christmas shopping yet, now’s the time!

Monday’s post was all about the best beauty gift sets that our favourite department store makeup counters have to offer, but today I’d like to focus more on HOW we shop, rather than what we’re buying. Over the next month, there are some exciting shopping events and new shop arrivals in Glasgow that are well worth checking out!

Not only will these stores and markets leave you spoiled for choice, but they’re also a chance to discover something a little bit different while picking up a few festive treats. I can’t wait to share them with you, so let’s get started!

Here are 3 alternative ways to shop this Christmas…

1. Etsy Made Local AKA The Christmas Market You Must Visit

Returning to Glasgow after last year’s successful event, the Etsy Team are organising an even bigger Christmas fair this year to celebrate local makers and creative talent. Showcasing the work of 132 designers and small businesses over a lively two-day stint at The Briggait, you can expect to browse the work of such clever cookies as Bonnie Bling, Nikki McWilliams, Claire Barclay Draws, Neil Slorance Art and many more.

At Etsy Made Local you’ll find oodles of homeware, art, illustrations, jewellery and accessories – perfect for anyone looking for Christmas gift inspiration. AND you might just discover your new favourite indie designer while you’re browsing! It all kicks off this Saturday at 11:30 and entry to the fair is free – see you there?

2. Boutique by Shelter Scotland AKA The Thrift Store for the Style Savvy

Shopping in second-hand stores is something that I talk about a LOT, as not only does it help support charities and the work that they do, but it is also a way to help contribute to sustainability (and avoid clothes going to landfill!). So when I heard about Boutique, the newest project from Shelter Scotland, I was excited to see what the charity had up their sleeve. Teaming up with Wayne Hemingway, Shelter have created a charity shop with a stylish, design-conscious feel (the interior design has been created by Wayne Hemingway himself…need I say more?) and are opening their very first Scottish store tomorrow at 177 Byres Road.

Having had a sneaky peek inside the store for myself, I really love the curated feel of the shop floor and even spied a few pre-loved gems ready to be snapped up (a beautiful oversized Chloe bag that would be perfect for a few gals I know…).  Shopping second-hand this Christmas will help to support those struggling with poor housing conditions and homelessness, but don’t forget how valuable your donations are too! If you’re planning a pre-Christmas clear out, the team at Boutique by Shelter would love to hear from you – you can pop in store from Thursday or drop them an email at ByresRoadShop@shelter.org.uk

3. Wear Eponymous x Leiper Gallery AKA The Pop-up Concept Store

Just a hop, skip and a jump from the hustle and bustle of Buchanan Street you’ll find the stunning Leiper Fine Art Gallery, where Wear Eponymous are hosting their latest pop-up shop. Within this traditional space there’s an explosion of contemporary designer brands and more award-winning talent than you can shake a Christmas tree at; including luxury fashion, accessories, interiors, jewellery, lifestyle pieces and art.

This is Wear Eponymous’ 4th pop-up event, the latest in the team’s quest to introduce key independent designers to a wider audience. After all, some discoveries are too good to keep to yourself! Expect to find pieces from the likes of Helen Ruth, Rebecca Torres and Edge Only (LOVE!) as well as lots of others – all artistically presented in this classic building at 117 West George Street until 31st December.

With a mega market, a chic charity shop and a powerful pop-up to choose from (OR why not visit all three?) it just goes to show that there are lots of alternative ways to shop over the festive period.

Glasgow is always bursting with fresh ideas and ways to support others, whether it’s charities, small businesses or local design talent and these three retail events are just a small selection of ways to get involved this Christmas! Let me know if you visit any of them – and if you have any other alternative or local shopping destinations for me to check out.

Join Us at the Scottish Blogger Shop

Being able to share awesome events around town that I think you guys will love is one of the things I enjoy most about writing here – and when it’s one that I’m directly involved in it makes me even happier.

So, grab your diaries and a big ol’ pen, because today I’m super excited to finally tell you all about a shopping party that you won’t want to miss! Some of my favourite blogging buddies and I have teamed up and organised Glasgow’s first ever Scottish Blogger Shop, and we would love to see YOU there!

On Sunday 21st August (only a few weeks away!) you’ll find us at one of my favourite venues, Hillhead Bookclub, armed with fashion, beauty and homeware items as well as other treats for you to enjoy. Think of it as the ultimate yard sale, and a chance to raid our wardrobes (heck, we might even need to resist raiding each others’ stuff at this rate…) with a cocktail in your hand and a squad of girls to chat with.

At our Scottish Blogger Shop you can expect to find a mix of high street, designer, vintage and independently made goodies at better-than-sample sale prices.

I’ll be bringing along a huge selection of pre-loved clothes and accessories from the likes of Topshop, Urban Outfitters, The Whitepepper, Vivienne Westwood, Crown and Glory and many more (as well as lots of pieces that have never been worn at all).

You’ll also find my infamous 321 rack, with all items on this rail priced at just £3, £2 and £1 – who says you can’t find a bargain these days? On the day there will be one or two other surprises that I’m keeping under wraps for now so be sure to stop by and say hello!

Wondering if the Scottish Blogger Shop is for you? Well, collectively, we have such an eclectic mix of personal styles and sizes available that there’s bound to be something that catches your eye – along with myself, you can also shop with Amanda, Ayden, Sheri, Tatiana, Wendy, Lucy, Michelle and Claire.

We’re also bringing in some of our friends from the Glasgow beauty scene to join in the fun, with Swoon Nails on hand to pamper your paws and Hair Dazzle by KK ready to dish out hair sparkles (well, it IS a party!). You can even capture your day out at the shop with Look Look’s GIF photobooth – though be warned, their photobooth is addictive…

I hope you can make it along to hang out with us, it’s going to be a lot of fun! There is NO need to RSVP and entry to the event is completely free. You can keep an eye on all of the action leading up to the day of the shop, and get involved in the conversation by using #ScottishBloggerShop. So round up your girl gang, spread the word and find us from 11am until 5pm at 17 Vinicombe Street – I can’t wait!

Love, Signature
