Hollyhood Miss West End Girl Gets a Foxy Winter Makeover

This year has been full of fun creative projects and collaborations, though one of the most special to me has to be teaming up with the amazing Chouchou to work on our Hollyhood Miss West End Girl hood, which was released back in April.

Seeing the design come to life and being able to actually TOUCH it after weeks of planning, decisions and FaceTime meetings was such an awesome feeling. Not only were we happy with the final product, but so were the customers – the hood was a hit!

And just when I thought that the year was almost over, it turned out that there was room for one more collaboration. We decided that our bright, light summer hood could do with a warm winter revamp!

Today I’d love to share the result: the Hollyhood MWEG Star

We agreed that the oversized shape of the original hood was a must, so we made sure to keep that in the new design. This helps to create an exaggerated silhouette, especially from the side!

Winter calls for the kind of accessory that you just want to snuggle up in and, to make this the ultimate cosy piece we traded in our tropical-inspired jacquard for warm woollen fabric. Keeping the cold at bay doesn’t mean keeping it simple though – at least, not where prints are concerned! The geometric designs that dance across the wool reminded us both of stars, so it felt only right that we included a reference to them in the name of the hood.

Like with so many of Chouchou’s designs, this hood is reversible so you can style the white stars on a black background OR vice versa! The bold monochrome pattern looks great against most colours and textures, but I personally love it layered over indigo denim.

No matter which side you wear it on, the hood will be trimmed with a plush, super soft faux fur in a rusty, burnt orange. You know that rare, startling pop of colour that you get when you suddenly see a fox running across some snow? If you’ve ever been in Kelvingrove Park at the right moment in January then you might be familiar with it! Anyway, the contrast between the luxurious, foxy fur and the black and white patterned wool seemed to feel right (and you might just feel a little bit foxier while wearing it too!).

The Hollyhood MWEG Star is just as much of a statement piece as its summer sister, and is the perfect accessory for a long walk on a chilly day.

I couldn’t be more proud of how our third collaboration has turned out and it’s available now as part of the new Hood Stories collection! I hope you love it! Also (and yeah, just call me an enabler…) Chouchou just happen to have launched a sample sale TODAY, which means that you can treat yourself to a stylish Hollyhood from past collections – though with prices starting at £54, they won’t be around for long. Hop to it, kittens…

Have you checked out the new collection from Chouchou? What has been your favourite project you’ve worked on this year?

With love,

My New Season Style Saviours

New Season Style Saviours

At this time of year, it can be so easy to fall into a fashion rut. It’s the one season where outfits must be practical, otherwise you’ll end up accessorising with a big ol’ box of Beechams and a nose redder than Rudolph (who wore it best?).

As someone who loves to dress up, these months often leave me cold (no pun intended!), when deciding what to wear. After all, where’s the pleasure when you’re bundling up in layers? Well, it turns out that you CAN still dress for fun while fending off Jack Frost! Hooray! I’ve picked out a few key accessories that are guaranteed to help keep our winter wardrobes playful and practical. I like to think of them as my new season style saviours!

New Season Style Saviours

First up, it’s all about the statement lip and it really doesn’t get much more bold than classic red. Red lipstick is great all year round, but at this time of year it’s especially effective at giving an otherwise muted outfit a pop of colour! I’m puckering up in bareMinerals Marvellous Moxie lipstick in Call The Shots – not only is the colour extremely pigmented but the formula hydrates the lips, keeping them lovely and moisturised.

I spent last weekend breaking in my new boots that I recently picked up from Dr Martens because, at the risk of sounding like a grandma, a good pair of boots are one of the most important things you can buy at this time of year. I’ve tried wearing shoes recently but it really is FAR TOO COLD for that kind of carry on. I have quite a few pairs of colourful DM’s in my wardrobe but this pull-on black pair go with any outfit, with the slightly pointed toe giving things a pretty but tough edge.

Next, I’d love to talk to you about accessorising with animal prints – though it’s not my dress that I’m going to tell you about (it’s from ASOS, though – if you were wondering!). Instead, let’s talk tortoiseshell…

New Season Style Saviours

Here I am wearing my very first pair of prescription glasses from Specsavers at the Trongate, and I couldn’t be happier with them. I’m wearing a patterned frame by Love Moschino and, after a first-class bespoke service which included custom fitting, straightening and even using a nifty iPad device to check the distance between my pupils, I am more than convinced that these are the glasses for me! The oversized shape means that they are comfy to wear, and the tortoiseshell design makes  it easy to inject a little bit of animal print into my ensemble!

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably be spending the next few weeks running around town trying to get things ready for Christmas, as well as swinging by the odd party or two! This is when an awesome bag comes in handy and the quilted Emerald style by Marc b is just the thing for carrying around everything I need. I love the vampy berry colour and the vintage-inspired gold hardware.

Finally, one of my all-time favourite ways to pep up an outfit is with a cute hat! When this Mickey Mouse beret was released by Lazy Oaf as part of their Disney collaboration, I just had to snap it up. It’s going to be gracing my head until the temperatures REALLY plummet but, until then, you can bet I’ll be wearing this for as long as I can get away with. Oh boy!

New Season Style Saviours

By mixing it up with some clever accessories I’ll still be embracing everything that is fun about fashion this winter, but how about you? What are some of your new season style saviours? Be sure to let me know your favourites!

Here’s to keeping things warm and whimsical,

A Holly Jolly Christmas Jumper

Love ’em or loathe ’em, it’s officially time for Yuletide-themed clothes and accessories to see the light of day again and I for one couldn’t be more pleased. Falling firmly into the ‘love ’em’ camp, it’s the time of year that I can take my love of kitsch up another notch.

Acting as my festive accomplice / enabler, the lovely team of elves at George invited me to indulge in my love of corny Christmas ensembles by styling up one of their Christmas jumpers from this year’s collection. Snowflakes, penguins and reindeer, oh my! With nearly forty festive choices to pick from, I felt like a kid in a candy (cane) store…

Opting for fine knit over fluffy, and a pattern instead of one main design, this cute little holly number called out to me!

I love the bold contrast of the pattern against the plain black of the sweater, and being black, it’ll be great for mixing and matching over the coming weeks.

Combining textures is one of my favourite parts of winter, and I decided to style the jumper with a soft pleather A-line midi skirt. As well as feeling great on (and I can confirm that it passes the twirl test!), the skirt has two front pockets – and we all know how I feel about a skirt with pockets, right? Score!

Fearing that I was wearing too much black (the horror!) I knew some sparkle was in order, and this embellished collar was the perfect way to jazz things up without piling on loads of layers. I wore it with my gold Bonnie Bling snowflake necklace, because you can never have too many metallics at Christmas time.

This month’s Crown and Glory Glitterati subscription box was party-themed and one of my favourite pieces from it is this glittery name headband. Each subscriber was sent a surprise reindeer name in their parcel, and I was so pleased to get Vixen in mine!

Can we just take a moment to appreciate these super shiny golden brogues? If these aren’t made for dancing I don’t know what is!

My Holly Jolly Christmas Outfit includes:

Jumper, skirt, collar & shoes: George
Snowflake necklace: Bonnie Bling
VIXEN Reindeer headband: Crown and Glory

I finished my look with a slick of red lipstick – it IS mistletoe season, after all!

Will you be wearing a Christmas jumper this year? What’s your favourite reindeer name?
