This week, I’m sharing something a little bit different but it’s something completely new to Glasgow AND it’s exciting AND I’ve really enjoyed discovering it lately so I hope you like it too!


If you haven’t heard of Taste Buchanan (created by the team at StreetDots) yet, let me bring you up to speed. Glasgow has a long-running love affair with independent street food – from pop-ups to festivals and everything in between, it’s pretty safe to say that foodies in our fair city love any opportunity to check out the newest vendors and sample their creations.

There’s only one thing though: street food events tend to be one-offs, meaning if you want to eat from your favourite gourmet pioneers, you need to be first in line at their latest event. Wah! Well, don’t worry because that’s where Taste Buchanan come in!

Taste Buchanan have taken the fun and independent concept of Glasgow’s street food scene and made it readily accessible to anyone that visits Buchanan Galleries every day. Not only that, but by having a roster of eight awesome local businesses, it gives vendors a chance to showcase their food and drink on a semi-permanent basis.

I was keen to see the starting line up of Taste Buchanan (and how well the hub caters to vegetarian options, of course!) so last week I spent a very happy lunchtime checking out their eclectic mix of traders.

The first unit that caught my eye was Chompsky, as I’ve been a regular at their pop-ups for a while now and I always come away from their stalls completely smitten with their latest concoctions. At Taste Buchanan, you can find Chompsky serving up Asian-inspired steamed buns with fresh slaw, along with some kickass sides.


I tried their vegan steamed bao bun, which was jam-packed with fresh mushrooms, spring onion, sesame seeds and pickled ginger.

I also ordered their sweet potato fries, which came drizzled in tasty sriracha mayo and served in a cone (ideal if you’re after a grab-n-go snack!) and an apple & mint iced green tea. Super refreshing!

Next up, I visited Nomad Pizza, who were lovely and chatty and enticed me in with the warm smell of freshly-baked pizzas. Never one to shy away from a slice (or a whole pizza!) I couldn’t resist trying their tenderstem broccoli, halloumi and sundried tomato one.


If you’re a Pixar fan, I have no doubt that the idea of broccoli on a pizza reminded of you of a certain scene from¬†Inside Out, but trust me on this: broccoli on a pizza totally WORKS.


I was also really impressed at how quickly Nomad were whipping up fresh pizzas in their state-of-the-art oven, and before I know it I was face-deep in cheese and veggies (AKA heaven!).

Also currently at Taste Buchanan, you can find Surf Dogs with a range of fully-loaded Brooklyn-inspired hot dogs. They have vegetarian and vegan options available too, so I will definitely be back to investigate soon.


The kitcsh picnic benches and ‘grass’ at Taste Buchanan make it the ideal place to stop for a relaxed bite to eat, and it feels like a million miles from the mall food court that stood in its place not so long ago.

If you’re hitting Buchanan Galleries at brunch time, I’d look no further than Union Waffles, who had a mouth-watering menu of sweet and savoury varieties. Their goat’s cheese, roasted butternut squash, spinach & pine nuts waffle sounds like true #brunchgoals and dessert fiends should also make a beeline for their S’mores waffle. Union Waffles are also serving amazing locally-roasted coffee from the likes of Thomson’s Coffee, making them your first stop when you have a busy day of shopping ahead!


Other than waffles, the sweet treats available include scoops of Equi’s ice cream and show-stopping cupcakes from Designer Cakes by Paige. Next time I visit, I’ll be saving room for one of Paige’s cute-as-a-button cake push pops because I need buttercream and sponge on a stick in my life, pronto.

The current stars in Taste Buchanan’s show will be there for about 8-10 weeks, before a brand new selection of local vendors take their place. The way I see it, this gives us plenty of time to try each one at least once, and remember what makes street food so special (spoiler alert: it’s not just about delicious food, it’s about community too).

    1. I think you might be right on the pizza front. I guess the motto is, don’t knock it until you try it! Hope you manage to get along and have a look. I’ve been back a handful of times already! xx
