The Great Christmas Jumper Debate

Christmas Jumper 3

It’s the first of December, which for some people means it’s time to REALLY start thinking about starting their Christmas shopping. For others it’s simply time to open the first door of the advent calendar. There are people who love December 1st as it gives them full steam ahead to put up their tree, watch Elf and start incorporating festive-themed garments into their everyday wardrobe. I am one of the latter, of course!

And when it comes to dressing in festive spirit, is there anything better than a Christmas jumper?

The thing with Christmas jumpers is that they’ve recently become fashionable kind of by accident! It really wasn’t too long ago that we were sniggering at Colin Firth in Bridget Jones Diary wearing his wooly monstrosity, right? They MUST have been the height of style at some point I reckon but not for a very long time! For the last few years, the humble Christmas knit has gone from being viewed as tacky, to ironic (exhibit A, m’lord - the student Christmas bar-crawl…) and finally - a must-have piece.

I cringe when I think about many of the outfits I used to wear growing up, but when it comes to old Christmas outfits I just can’t get enough. There’s something sweet about dressing for Christmas, and the way I see it, the more OTT the better! Why just stop at the jumper when you can have matching bottoms (thanks mum!)?

This year, I’ll still be rocking a fun festive knit (but might leave the matching bottoms…for now…) thanks to the awesome collection of jumpers at New Look. Whether you’re a penguin, reindeer or snowman kinda gal, there’s surely something to jingle your bells (ooh-err!)!

I picked out this Party Polar Bear jumper - not only did it feature a very cute (glittery!) polar bear, but he is also wearing a party hat made of SEQUINS! Perfection! So many things that I love on the one jumper.

When I pulled it on I loved how soft and cosy it felt and couldn’t wait to show it off!

I wore it with a skater skirt and headscarf today, but I can’t promise that I won’t be joining my bear friend and wearing a gold party hat with it the next time…

It’s safe to say that I am firmly on team Christmas jumper, but what do you think? Are Christmas jumpers on your wishlist or do you think they are still pretty naff? And if you could have any animal wearing a party hat on a sweater, what would you choose?

With polar bears and polka dots,

With thanks and festive sparkles to New Look!

  1. I’m just catching up on some reading so just saw this 🙂 I love his wee gold crown. I’m not really team Christmas jumper but I’m thinking of customising one this year just for Christmas Jumper Day. Peer pressure y’all! x
