Toot toot! I can’t believe it’s been just over a year since I pushed the button, took the leap and went live with Lynsay Loves. One whole year! It really doesn’t feel that long, but I guess time flies when you’re having a good time, am I right?
Blog rebranding wasn’t a decision that I took lightly - I probably mulled over it for a little too long to be honest, but I am sure most people with a business or passion close to their heart can relate to that feeling. I’m always telling others to face up to the what ifs, so I had to take my own advice eventually!
And here’s the thing, the last year has been AMAZING. I’ve had so much fun, some awesome opportunities and I’ve learned a ton, too. Why didn’t I do this sooner, I thought. I guess it was the idea of the unknown holding me back.
I thought it might be helpful to share some of those blog rebranding lessons from my experience. Now, hear me out - I’m certainly not encouraging anyone to make a huge change just for the sake of it! But, if you’ve been thinking about undergoing a rebrand for your business or website, these points might help…
- Ask yourself why you want to switch things up. For me, I no longer felt a personal connection to my branding and I wanted my blog name to feel like ‘me’. If you can answer the question quite easily, you’re probably making the right decision.
- Get your digital house in order. This includes social media handles! Once you know your new identity, check for the available website addresses and social media handles and snap them up if you can get ’em!
- Accept that not everyone will ‘get it’ or think you’re doing the right thing. What’s important is that YOU are happy with what you’re doing, and don’t feel pressured by other people’s opinions. I got a few flippant remarks, and one company I used to collaborate with a lot have kept their distance entirely - but I’ve honestly had endless support from 99.9% of people and built so many new relationships that I can’t help but focus on the positives.
- Another thing to accept: your domain authority (DA) will be affected. Just a heads-up! I don’t make the rules, you guys, so don’t shoot the messenger. Ultimately I looked at the benefits of blog rebranding and they massively outweighed the decrease in my DA score. It all comes down to what your motivation is but I’d rather have a brand that I love and build my DA back up, than stick with something I’ve outgrown.
- Make a plan, but make sure you enjoy the process, too! I’ve written a little bit about doing what’s right for you here - and I stand by it one year later. If you wait around for everything to be perfect, you could end up waiting forever! You got this!
I hope that if you’ve been thinking about blog rebranding or making some changes to your business, this has helped in some way! As always, I’m happy to answer any questions you have, and do my best to help, either in the comments below or over on Twitter.
