Hey, girl! Come on over!
I’ve spoke about the importance of spending time with your best gals in previous posts and how I truly believe that giggly, girly time is good for our minds, bodies and souls! Today, we’re going to look at the ultimate ritual in girl hangs - the Girls Night In - and I’m going to share some of my favourite tips on how to have a fabulous time with your soul sisters. Sorry boys, you’ll need to sit this one out (and yes, we probably ARE going to talk about you - especially during a round of truth or dare…). Ready? Let’s grab a pillow, get comfy and begin…
Fancy Dinner Vs. Pyjama Jam
Deciding on which kind of night you want to host is probably one of the biggest decisions - after that, the rest comes a LOT easier! Are you having a sleepover or will you expect your guests to leave later that night? This will obviously depend on a few factors like how much space you have, how many people you want to invite and if you have the house to yourself! Deciding on this will bring you onto the next point…
What’s a girl to wear?!
Whether you decide on PJ’s or your finest frocks, remember that this night is all about having fun and being yourselves. You could make a themed dress code - for example set a challenge like who can turn up in the silliest onesie, or who can rock the most over-the-top outfit a la Dallas and Dynasty! Think shoulder pads, gold and dramatic facial expressions.
Food, food, food!
Coming up with something cute and/ or delicious to munch on while you dissect the last episode of Drag Race is a must-do! I’ve found that mac n’ cheese, heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats and basically anything drenched in chocolate are absolute winners. Why not create your own bright pink lemonade (both alcoholic and virgin versions for your guests) for some uber-feminine flair?
Pamper Party
Channel your inner goddesses with some well-deserved pampering! You could crack out some face masks (this works best if you’re hosting a sleepover) or try out some vintage up-dos! Does someone in your crew have serious nail art skills? They could do a mini-tutorial in exchange for some second helpings of mac n’ cheese, or even control of the playlist!
Entertainment Essentials
If you’re hosting a sleepover then a swoon-worthy selection of films is vital. Try to include at least one that features some sassy girlfriends and quote-worthy lines. My top picks are Clueless (duh), Mean Girls (so fetch!), The Craft (we are the weirdos, mister) and Heathers (how very!). Staying up all night? Why not show a back-to-back marathon of American Horror Story: Coven and try to pick your favourite outfit (and line!) from the series? A music playlist befitting of your night is also a must. Just try not to wake up the whole building with your harmonising on No Scrubs, OK?
With these starting points covered, the rest will fall into place and you’ll have a blast hanging out with your girls. I hope that you have an awesome time and you’ve enjoyed reading my Girls Night In essentials!
