Recently, I spent a night in my pyjamas watching back-to-back Disney movies at the Grosvenor Cinema… and it was awesome! Here’s the thing though: I didn’t really plan to write about it. I booked the tickets, put my gal pal Vicky in charge of snacks and was kind of treating the night at the cinema as a bit of a ‘night off’.
Shortly after settling into our seats though, I could really feel the excitement in the air and realised that I couldn’t NOT write about this night and tell you guys all about it! So, with just a couple of Instagram photos saved on my camera roll to help me, I thought I would share my night at the Disney movie sleepover…
If you’ve ever visited the fabulous Grosvenor Cinema before, you’ll know that they only have two screens. After announcing that they would be showing five Disney films over the course of a night, encouraging attendees to wear their PJ’s and bring blankets, it was no surprise that the word got out fast, and the event sold out quicker than you could say bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!
Luckily for me, the guys at the Grosvenor decided to put the same selection of titles on their second screen at the same time, which just about doubled the size of the audience and allowed them to release an additional batch of tickets! Yay! I managed to snap up two just in time!

Walking up the cobbles of Ashton Lane on a busy Saturday night in my Mickey pyjamas and mouse ears was probably a surprise to some of the crowd who were out socialising to say the least! But most of the rest of the cinema-goers were in their nightwear too, so I was clearly in good company.
Starting at 11:30pm, the first movie on the agenda was Beauty and the Beast - followed by Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King, Cinderella and, finally, The Jungle Book. The selection of films was excellent, spanning different eras and styles of Disney (which left self-confessed Disney nerds like me VERY satisfied) and The Jungle Book is one of my all-time favourites so I was especially happy with that choice! Massive hi-fives to the Grosvenor Cinema organisers for picking such a classic line-up.
My favourite memory from the night? The opening scene from The Lion King, which had everyone singing Circle of Life (complete with enthusiastic Zulu chants!) and feeling a tad delirious at 3am. Perfection.
By 4:30am, the sun was starting to come up and when the event finished a few hours later at 8am, we headed home for a power nap, still singing!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! A little bird tells me that the Grosvenor Cinema may be planning to do it all over again very soon with five different Disney movies! So, whether you didn’t catch it the first time around, or just want to relive the magic, trust me: you won’t want to miss this.
Tell me: would you go to a Disney movie sleepover? Which films would YOU choose in your dream line-up?
