Some of you might remember that I visited Platform, a new street food venture in the reopened Argyle Street Arches, a couple of months back. It’s my favourite weekend pit stop for fresh, yummy grab-and-go food and I’ve been really excited to hear that they are now teaming up with The Glasgow Markets to bring a new independent shopping event to the city centre: Super Market Glasgow!
I love any opportunity to discover and shop local companies (especially face-to-face!) so thought I would give you guys the lowdown on what to expect at the first Super Market Glasgow this Sunday…
Argyle Street Arches is a HUGE space, so with around 50 retailers setting up shop for the day, there’s going to plenty to see, browse and buy - with creative and retail stalls covering fashion, homeware, plants & flowers, vintage, antiques, design, art, jewellery, beauty, children’s clothes & toys and much more!
Even though the event is going to be a hop, skip and a jump from the Style Mile and malls of the city centre, Super Market Glasgow is an awesome opportunity to look beyond the high street, check out some amazing Scottish talent and support small businesses.
A few brands that I’ll be keeping a look out for are Wee Collective (stunning mid-century modern furniture), Barbra Kolasinski (faux fur fashion in a rainbow of colours) and Eyedresser (vintage fair veterans with the best selection of retro glasses).
There’s also going to be drop-in activities from the likes of Mind and Draw if you fancy trying your hand at something new, and of course all of the usual deliciousness from the Platform street food vendors will be there too. All this AND the promise of cute pooches (the market is both dog and family friendly!) - surely the makings of a fun day out, yeah?
If this all sounds good, Super Market Glasgow opens this Sunday at 11am and will run until 5pm. Suggested entry fee is £1 and the market will donate 50% of this profit to Crookston Community Group Food Bank. This local food bank help over 500 people in need each week, so by coming along on Sunday and sparing a wee bit of pocket change you’ll also be helping to make a big difference.
