10 Awesome Halloween Movies to Stream

halloween movies to stream

Movie nights at Halloween are a BIG tradition around our house. As two huge film fans, Gary and I were only too happy to carry on the film marathons at home after our favourite all night horror fest at the Odeon stopped (RIP!) several years ago.

I look forward to our spooky shindig all year - with our besties in attendance, everybody in costume and tasty treats galore, it’s one of my very favourite ways to spend the evening.

But, before you get ready to stay up past the witching hour, you need a solid list of films to get you started, right? In our group, we all like to pick one each, but you might want to create your own themed line-up.

Some of you might remember Gary’s guest post from a couple of years ago, which includes five features to sink your fangs into. I wanted to give you guys an updated list with a focus on some fresh favourites that feature on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky streaming services (because we’re probably more likely to reach for the remote than go looking for a DVD nowadays).

Here are 10 awesome Halloween movies to stream this year…

  1. The Babysitter (2017) | Netflix | The perfect party flick. Gory, funny and very stylish - what would you expect from McG; the guy who brought us the Charlie’s Angels movies?
  2. Scream (1996) | Prime | Don’t call it a comeback - this iconic homage to the slasher genre introduced Wes Craven to a new generation. And had THOSE ghost face masks banned at practically every school in the UK as a result.
  3. The Ritual (2017) | Prime | If you go down to the woods today… you’re gonna get stalked by a monster. Or at least, if you’re this group of lads you will.
  4. Happy Death Day (2017) | Sky | Wouldn’t it be great if you woke up and it was your birthday every day? Not when there’s a serial killer on the loose. Bummer.
  5. Pet Semetary (1989) | Sky | One of my favourite Stephen King tales - add it to your watchlist before the remake comes out next year…
  6. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) | Prime | A maniacal former child star tortures her paralysed sister in their Hollywood mansion - this is a thriller that never gets old.
  7. The Shining (1980) | Prime | Another Stephen King story - though arguably one of the most well-known. Full of iconic moments and imagery… and you’ll never look at a hedge maze the same way again; trust me!
  8. Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) | Netflix | The list of vampire movies is endless - but this star-studded 90s extravaganza is a great one to start with if you aren’t sure.
  9. Halloween (1978) | Sky | Slasher films don’t get much better than this. Yes, it has a never ending franchise that makes you wonder how Jamie Lee Curtis’s character could possibly be so unlucky - BUT this is the one that started it all and it’s rad!
  10. The Wicker Man (1973) | Sky | It’s not Halloween without an appearance from Christopher Lee if you ask me, and this Scottish horror movie is one of his best. Bonkers and brilliant.

These are just a few of my favourite Halloween movies to stream, and I’d love to know yours! What should I add to my watchlist?
